V7R Two Up seat install issue

I've got a new 2013 racer and have a two-up seat (its the old style Classic seat) that is supposed to just pop right in. As with most things that are supposed to be a 2 minute operation, it isn't. I've tried removing the seat protector pouch and tool kit thinking it might have been a clearance issue, that didn't work. I checked the alignment of the "grab notch" on the 2up seat with the latch and that seems in order. I can get the seat aligned and it does seem to engage but there is no sure "click" as with the stock seat and it just pops off with on finger. I've also tried rotating the key to manipulate the latch while pushing down on the seat, again no go.

As it stands I'm just looking at throwing in the towel and trying to exchange with new seat, maybe the "new" V7R 2up unit. Before I resort to that, has anyone else had this issue, if so, how did you fix it?

I bought a extra Cafe seat for my Classic and it fit firmly and locked perfectly.

But my stock Classic seat was too loose after latching. I could lift it up 1/8" and move it back and sideways 1/4".

The stock seat didn't feel secure until I glued some flat rubber washers to the spacers under the seat. I used a rubber washer thickness of 1/8"that resulted in the seat latching firmly with a light push. Holds perfect now!

In your case, it sounds like the seats underside spacers, (snap in pucks), are much too thick. Try prying out a couple of the spacers at the back to test. Should latch now. Then make your own thinner spacers out of rubber scrap, or cut down the stock spacers a bit - if you can, or get a handy friend to help.

Good luck!

Thanks for this info. I'm in the market for a dual seat. My thought was to maybe even find another solo seat, but have it made into a dual. I already have the foot pegs in place.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to take another look at the seat and ultimately solved the problem by removing 2 of the rubber bumpers on the seat. The two in question were the ones that contact the rear tail of the frame and are on either side of the latch peg thingy. I 'spose I could try shaving some of the material off but I think there are enough of those rubber pads that it shouldn't make much of a difference. That being said, I think I'm still going to swap out this 2up seat for the new model (mine looks like the standard Classic 2up seat) specific for the Racer. I really to like the ability to change the whole look of the bike in less than 2 minutes time. Not sure which look I prefer yet, but it is a great option!
