Norge weather protection

I am looking at buying a 2009 Norge (2v / pot). Just wondering if the fairing is wide enough to keep my hands warm and dry? It has heated grips but I like to keep the wind off my hands as I ride in UK throughtout the year.

I think I may also want a taller screen? What options are available in UK?

Thanks
AndyB

I have an '08 and I have the taller windscreen. Night and day difference. I would highly recommend.
I also have the handguards from a Stelvio and bar risers to make them not hit the fairing.
The stock fairing will not protect your hands.

Thanks Scott and Brian,
The Stelvio hand guards and higher screen look like the way to go.
What type of bar risers did you use - and did you need to change the cables?

I don't want to make the Norge into a BMW RT but I do want a bike I can ride without too much pain.

The only other mod I may need is some sort of floatation device - it has been raining rather a lot in UK recently!

The Bar Risers came From Moto International. They are about 36mm high and are necessary to make the hand guards work with the fairing. Otherwise your hand guards are facing down to miss the fairing or you have no steering in tight spaces to move the bike around.
Can't help with the rain situation, we get alot of it here in Seattle as well.
Here is another view of the risers...

Scott,

Two questions.

First, as Andy asked, did you have to change out or do other magic with cables when you installed the risers?

Second, Do the risers change ergos much? Realize that is one of those "huh?" and YMMV sort of questions, but my sure is fine for me now, ad I'd hate to change the status quo that works for an OMG-why-did-I-do-that unfix.

The added weather and temp protection is, however, significant, at least with same on my Griso, so I am willing to put with modest difference.

Thanks.

Bill

Bill, I have the MI risers with the hand guards I got from Dan. Big improvement! I like the more relaxed position. The cables are all stock with no restrictions. The guards do make it difficult to lock the steering, I will see if I can compensate. Glad to have them though, hands stay warm and protected from debris.

Ps. I almost forgot to cover the check I sent Dan. Caught it right before it was cashed.
Cheers
Matt

Thanks, Matt.

I take it from your "The guards do make it difficult to lock the steering, I will see if I can compensate," comment that the guards still bump up against the fairing, tho much less so than when no risers.

I do spend some time at full lock -- of course, in reality, very little actual time, but always exciting -- in, e.g., low-speed, parking-lot turns, etc., so am a bit uneasy about making that harder than already is.

Based on my Griso experience, those guards do make such a difference in weather protection, tho, that some sacrifice ... even stopping to "walk" the Norge around ultra-tight turns ... is likely worth it.

Bill

Thanks Guys, appreciate the information.

Maybe Hellibars and HandGuards are the way to go? From what I have read the Hellibars move the bars backwards as well as upwards. Just a bit expensive.

If the MI bar risers literally raise the bars and do not move them backwards that is why clearances are tight.

Has anyone tried extending the fairing further outwards at the handlebars?

My bike arrives Friday (black 09 NorgeT) so i will ride it standard for a bit and then start playing with it

Read on another thread here that the new (2012) Norge bars do mostly all that the Helibars do, and are cheaper.

Hmmmmmm.

Interesting. Did not know that.

Of course, "mostly" is a river-wide word!

Then, as (I think!) fairings are same on all, question remains whether Stelvio h/g bump fairing on new Norges.

Wonder if anyone's done that?

Bill

I bought the 8v bars as I had sat on one and they were much better than the 2v norge higher and further back. They look like they were a straight swop but for some reason MG decided to change the top yoke on the 8v and they don't fit!!

When you say "they don't fit," do you mean NFW or "they would fit with some sort of machined spacer," etc.?

Bill

The holes for the bolts dont line up and the raised square bit in the midle of the top yoke would need about 3mm to be filed of each side. The easiest way would be to buy the 8v top yoke as well as the bars

I have a 2011 8V Norge. I would be interested to install Stelvio handguards. I too wonder if they are going to fit well without knocking the fairing. Does anyone knows the answer?

They do, Eric ... or, at least, there has been considerable chatter on all the Guzzi boards to that effect. In fact, others have tried various types of h/g, yet all seem to bump.

I have a set of the Stelvio h/g on my Griso and, as a result of how grand they are there, I plan to pull 'em this Sunday (they go on and come off very easily) and try 'em on the Norge to see how bad the bind is. Will let you know.

Thx Bill. I am looking forward for your follow up.
