Gday
would like some advice on my ntx 650 guzzi.
bike will not idle unless throttle cables are adjusted to hold sleeves up.
motor is running rich and blows a bit of smoke when motor is reved.
motor is slugish when incresing revs.
carbys have been checked and are ok.
i dont have the chokes conected could this be the problem.
turned fuel taps of and ran motor at one point motor ran well

any advice would be much apreciated
mark

Hi Mark - welcome.

What do you mean by "...don't have the chokes connected"? If they are not installed then that is the problem, or at least part of it. But if the cables are disconnected and the choke plunger and plate are in place, then it may be something else. Make sure the seals at the bottom of the plunger/piston are in good shape.

it's running miles too rich. Assuming the jetting's not been mucked with, check the float valves are closing correctly

I would check the timing first, don't ask me how i know it....LOL !
As manual says , before to work on carbs , BE SURE the timing and ignition system are spot on.

I've learned that every carb " problem "turns out to be timing/ignition problem.

keep us posted.
