In the last 5k miles I’ve replaced the front wheel bearings, swing arm bearings, large carc bearing and I’m now onto the steering bearings. Luckily, I’ve stayed on top of the suspension linkage rollers and they’re OK. At the MOT a couple of months ago they go picked up the steering as ‘slightly notchy’ and noted as an advisory. I’ve got my nice new shiny taper rollers ready to go in and this is what came out.

I’ve knocked the outer races out from the frame, nice and easy, no fuss with that job, and I’ll take the stem to the local garage on Saturday to have the bottom race pressed off and the new one pushed on.

I’ve put a nice little grease nipple in so that the next set doesn’t go the same way.

I too wish to do this in the spring. What exactly did you have to strip off to drop the forks and triple clamps? I have a 2007 Norge and only want to take off just whats neccessary.
Thanks, Bob

Mine's a breva, so it'll obiously different around the headlight. It was mudguard, callipers, wheel, plastic cover around the ignition switch. Under there is the headlamp unit top bolt, two botom bolts under the bottom yolk.handle bars, forks, top yolk.

I realized after posting that you didn't have a Norge. I'm just going to gut the inside of the fairing, take Tank off of course, plus all the stuff you listed. I'll get through it. Was it pretty straight forward to replace your swing arm brgs?
Bob

It was pretty straight forward getting to the swing arm bearings but the shells are in the frame and are blind. I couldn't see ( get it... blind  )any way of getting them out other than cutting them and I don't have a cutter and wouldn't trust myself with one. I put it all back together and took it to the shop to let them do it.

I think the grease nipple is an overkill. Properly greased (with the correct grease) and installed SH bearings not subjected to the influences of a pressure washer wont have an issue with corrosion and premature wear and failure.
Ciao
