Well , it didnt take me long to realise Id totally stuffed up by selling my '85 Guzzi .
So here I go again , onto another one . I need some assistance with Identifying it properly though , are you able to help me please .
Its a 1992 Black Moto Guzzi Le Mans 5 with only 55200 kilometers on the clock.
Its advertised as being Number 54 of a limited edition 100 . It has 40mm Delorto Carbs.
Engine number is : 18149 , Chassis number is 16991. It is an unmolested bike , bog stock for what it is , in real tidy condition , registered and warranted .
The seller is suggesting NZ $7500.00 negotiable .
This figure seems very good to me , as when I sold my own 85 SP 11 / 1000cc recently , it sold for NZ $ 7250.00.
So , there's the challenge . Any info greatly appreciated .
Regards Supaflee

Moto guzzi Le Mans 5 production years 1988/94 , so i don't see how it can be a limited edition number, but i can be wrong.
40mm dell'orto carbs were stock.

engine and frame numbers should match .

If you get it , please post pics, I like porn..

Good luck
Marco

The number of LM V sold in the U.S. was limited indeed. They were very expensive compared to other options. Guzzi has always done special paint combinations for high (er) volume dealers in the UK and Europe. Perhaps this was a similar situation.

As for Guzzi prices I will quote Cheryl Crow: "If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad."

I feel like Ive made a huge Guzzi Error.
How do I say this without getting heaps of flak, ----------------------------------------------" SOLD IT ".
Yes , I was starting to enjoy it too much , and take it to the limit too often , and ride right on the edge of my own ability with out any margin remaining ,,,,, so I sold it before I did something unfortunate .

So Supaflee, what happened to make you change your mind? Did life just get cheaper, or have you resolved to stay away from that limit?

Perhaps the magnetic pull of a Goose is just too strong for you. Good luck with your endeavour.

Ive made a promise to myself . Ride slower ,,,,,,but do it more often.
The bike Ive got in the shed just ,, well , doesnt "do it" for me . Sure , the VX 800 is nice , but after owning the Guzzi 1000 , I realise that , this is the make of bike I really want in my life . Its about character , sound , appearance , the cult like following , and all that stuff . Guzzi owners know what I mean .
If anyone can help reconcile the engine number and frame number confusion I'd be real happy.
Appearantly this bike (1992) was used originally by someone escaping from Croatia . Then in 1994 when it came to NZ it was first registered here as a NZ bike. Rego Number 76 SUZ .
In 1996 it is recorded as only having travelled 19600kms , all this sure is confusing , but if the bike is ok then I suppose it doesnt matter much. I wonder if I can contact the original NZ owner , its only had 2.
Does anyone have any info about a Model "CI", could it be one of those .
It has a Brass plaque/badge stating it is Number 54 / 100, rivetted to the dashpanel . I have found Number 56/100 is in Australia.
Interesting eh , What about JZ and OJ , do you know anything that may throw some light on this ??
Regards Supaflee

It is my understanding that the Le Mans 1000 mk5 did not sell very well towards the end and there were a lot siting around the factory unsold by 1993 / 1994. Based on the success of a limited edition run of Californias, Guzzi stripped down the bikes and repainted them, changed the alternators and marked them with a limited edition plaque (I think they were called LeMans Evolution). I doubt they are much different to the regular LeMans, however they are the last of the breed so no doubt are worth a bit more.

This information is from the Le Mans Bible (great book), though my memory might be a little at fault.

On a side note, I sure wish I could buy a Le Mans for the equivalent of NZ $7500 here in Australia! Prices are more like $10k.

I'll check out the numbers you provided against the book, and post them up next week.

Hope this helps.

Jason

Thats quite cool Rocker .
mmmmmmm Ultima Editione , sounds sweet eh .

Yeah. As mentioned above, the factory had a run of assembled, but unsold, motorcycles in the early '90s.

One thing they did was paint 17 of them metallic black over the red frame and sent them to the USA for model year 1991.

1992/1993, the British Importer came up with the idea of a limited edition, and the red/red "Ultima Editione" was born. Very rare machine, if that is what you've found!

Post pix!

Ah thanks for that info . Im generating quite a little heap of stuff here now. As soon as I get my hands on the bike Ill try posting pics of it .
There is definately a brass plaque with , " Ultima Editione 54 / 100 " on it , with the Guzzi wings across it's centre , rivetted to the dash panel between the fork staunchions .
The one Im going to buy is black , chrome pipes , white rims.
My old Guzzi , the one I now regret selling , has several pics in the Tonti pics section of this forum on page 20 and 21 from memory .
I cant stand to go there to look at it now .Jeeeeeez it was a good bike .Have a look see what you think.
Regards Supaflee .

Hi Supaflee

Your old bike is nice, not too sure about these filters but love the flatslides always wanted to go that way but never got around to it.

Anyways my Magni is a LM 1000 (aka LM V) engine gbx and trannie. If you liked the old one you should like the LM even better.

Good luck with it and post up a pic if/when you get it

John

Last frame number for the CI is 16994 so yours fits in that sequence for the last LMV as one of the last LM frames. That and the plaque is very good corroboration that you have an Ultima, which should be red with red wheels or black with black wheels. The Ultima was released in 1992 at the Amsterdam show adding further weight. The CI would be very similar but have wheels in red/alloy and flat ended mufflers, where the Utlima had mono colour wheels and tailpipes on the mufflers. I say you've got a genuine Ultima, which would have been built from remaining CI stock. And it was the Dutch importer that suggested it, not the English.

Wow , this is great information . The bike's frame number is 16991 , so thats only 3 bike frames from the end of the production where the last number is 16994.
Are you able to throw any light on the engine for me , VV9488 , or # 18149.
regards Supaflee

The '92 Le Mans Guzzi 1000 " Ultima Editizione " Number 54 /100 I was buying has been sold buy the owner to another person , even though we'd agreed without any dispute on a price and delivery arrangements etc . I contacted the owner to say that I'd be riding my existing bike 400 miles and that I'd get some other form of transport for the remaining couple of 100 miles , and that Id be bringing the cash with me ,when he told me , " Its sold Mate ".
It seems some people dont really mean what they say , Im really annoyed . More than that Im furious .
Supaflee
( ps , and to make things worse , it has been sold to someone here in Tauranga ,the city in which I live .)

Wow, sorry to hear that. I know how you feel - only cure is another guzzi.

Some 20+ years ago I responded to an advert for a V7 Sport that had been modified. I rode there on my bike, 50 miles or so, to check it out and didn't take cash cause I thought if this thing was too butchered I would not buy it. Well, I liked the bike and the mods could have been easily reversed if I chose to. We agreed on the price, then for some reason it became difficult to get in phone contact with the owner. Finally one day I got a hold of him and he said "sorry, it's sold". Think I had nightmares for a while after that. Then another guzzi eventually came along...

I'm wondering, with the limited used stock in NZ, does it make sense to import a bike for the US?

Hi Guys, Have found a 1991 Lemans 1000 with 16000Ks on the clock in very good condition what sort of price would be on something like that.

Tough to answer for many of us. New Zealand is a small market. Does your country have things like dealer guides for prices? That would be a good starting point. In the USA a bike like that might sell in the 7 to 10K USD range, but are only valued by the dealer guides at about 5K. Unfortunately the guides in the USA under value Moto Guzzi bikes.
