Ok folks, what's the hot setup for rear shocks on the old LM-V battlewagons?

Ohlins?

Gazi?

The OEM Konis are shot and I want something nice for this rare bird of mine...

The closest to the original Koni would be Ikons. They are just Koni by another name and would perform like the original Konis. As for upgraded shocks, I'm sure Todd can set you up with some good ones.

Hi Rocker59, that cool lookin collectable appears to be the same animal as what Im lookin to geta hold of very soon.
Has yours got a little brass badge fixed onto the dash panel with it's official number on it ?
Can I ask you what your engine number is please ?
As info regarding the bike Im looking at is starting to mount up Im getting excited . Cant wait to get Guzzi-ing again.
Regards Supaflee

It's a 1991 USA version of the LeMans 1000 CI. Last year for the Tonti LeMans in the USA. No number plaque, but 1 of 17 imported.

I believe what you're looking at is an "Ultima Editione". Those didn't come to the USA.

Mike, depends on what you want to spend and/or if you want the (Öhlins) bling...

Thanks Todd!

I'll think on it.

Do you think the piggyback versions will fit under the LM-V bodywork? I'm going to take a look and see what it looks like under there.

Looking at just the photo above, it should. That said, you can run the reservoirs as you've seen them posted, or facing forward, or upside down.

I would think even if it is "OK" to do that, you are still moving the shock body and fluid with the rear suspension movement while the shaft with the piston on it stays still.
That is just fundamentally wrong on several levels. Will it make a difference on a Guzzi street bike? No, probably not. But if it were mine I would know it is wrong and that would bother me.

I first replaced them about 15 years ago with some NOS Konis I got from Magni, but have since switched to Ohlins (steering damper too).

And on my other LMIV, I've got five Fournales!

(well, it does have Earles forks and a sidecar, had to save weight somehow)

I'm in the same boat as rocker59... thinking about YSS vs. Gazi on the high end, so now leaning to Gazi.. But I just found these Bitubos WME... would'nt it be nice to have these classy Italian lovelies for my Guzzi.. Anyone have any experience with them.. I already have Bitubo cartridges in the front forks.

Steve, this is an old thread, so I updated my words and links above. I personally haven't dealt with BiTubo other then the off the shelf offerings, and they were pretty awful. If you can get them built and sprung to spec, it might be worth a whirl to see. Otherwise, the new offerings I have by RT are pretty amazing, and stat at just $799 for the emulsion set with length adjustment. $100 less without; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/category/suspension/rt-twin-shocks/

IKON 7614 -

Got a set on my CX100 to replace old KONIs, and really like the IKONs

While i like the original Koni,s on my Lemans V.
The newish Ikons on my Cali were not quite up to the task for me.
A new set of Hagon Nitro,s were a big improvement in comfort and handleing for faster riding solo and two up.
Nitro,s on the Lemans feel nicer than the Koni,s but only marginally.
Ikons are a good quality shock, but far from the latest technology available today.
How much do you want to spend?
