Yesterday I received a call from my dealer here in Austin. He was calling to set up an appointment to replace the fuel tank. Apparently the crackling sound from the tank that persists in spite of cooler weather is a issue.

Carl, can you expand on your post above?

well I got the stelvio back today from the fuel tank replacement. apparently the tech had noticed cracking on the bottom of the fuel tank when he had the bike on his lift for the 6k service. he snapped some photos and contacted the area rep who gave the okay for the replacement. the tech showed me the old tank and it had multiple cracks visible on the bottom, along both sides, an inch or more in from the sides. the tech said that sometimes pressure build up from improper venting can be the cause but that did not seem to be the cause on my bike. he also said that the ethanol in the fuel can be a cause. so I guess if you hear something that sounds like a motorcycle's metal engine pinging as it cools keep an eye out to the bottom of the tank.

What year Stelvio. Just got a 13, had blisters on my Griso tank so I concerned. Not again...

Why do manufacturers continue making unlined tanks?. It's very well established what exposure to ethanol fuels will do to plastic fuel components. Its cool eventually they will revert to metal but why not coat the tanks coming off production lines with chemical treatments that are imperious to ethanol damage?
To knowingly fabricate fuel tanks that are not suitable for their intended purpose and could risk personal injury is irresponsible.

When mine bubbles it will go back.Stupid political puppets ...
