Looking for input on sorting a bone-stock ’04 Nero Corsa in Bay Area California. Bike has only 1,300 miles. I have a well sorted ’02 Lemans that has MG Ti pipes (and “race” ecu), and PC III with map for that bike. It does not have an aftermarket crossover. Budget is about $500 to $1000 for the crossover and sorting fueling. A touch more if dyno is required (I’m not after peak performance and was happy with a standard PCIII map for the ’02 since it adequately addressed the mid-range dip in torque).

Plan is to get either a Stucchi or Mistral crossover, move the Ti pipes (and ecu?) to the new bike. I could either move the PC III or reflash the ecu for the new bike configuration.
Questions:
  • Does the ’02 “race” ecu move to the ’04, or will that screw things up?
With an aftermarket crossover, is the front crossover worth retaining? I hear little good about these - but then folks who have no problem don't post. If there is no significant benefit, I could swap headpipes from the ’02 as well and would rather not map the ecu or PC III a second time if I end up dropping the front crossover later. If it adds value, fine.
Thoughts on Stucchi vs Mistral for a non-race, mid range kind of rider who starts out on nice roads and typically ends up on a goat trail cursing California highway department. I recognize this is an old scab. Stucchi is purportedly about to replenish US stock of crossovers "soon". (I don't plan to move the centerstand from the '02 to the '04 which would otherwise drive to a Mistral).
Reflash the ecu, or map the PCIII?
If reflash, then which ecu, the ’04, the original ’02 which I still have, or the ’02 “race” ecu?

long ago I researched cross overs and remember the Mistral supposedly better at low/mid range and Stucci high end HP.. I went with Mistral and eliminated the slight cough/hesitation at around 3200rpm. I'm very happy with it and now I added the Mistral reverse cone.. sound not as sweet as other can mufflers but better than stock, it's quite staccato ee.

Hi wcguzzi,

Another bay area rider here. No longer have a V11 but went through about every permutation and multiple rounds of tweakage with the Rosso Mandello I owned for 2 years. I'll chime in on a couple of subjects.

Mistral vs. Stucchi crossover: I have at the time in fact tried both, on the dyno with a very well known and respected tuner. My results were the opposite to what is commonly claimed regarding the Mistral: the Stucchi produced MORE torque pretty much everywhere, not significantly. Both help the dip big time. All this experimentation took place BEFORE I had Todd flash the ECU.

Todd's ECU reflash was the one single most drastic positive change to the way that bike fueled and the biggest bang for the buck, compared to everything else fueling-related. Proper set-up first of course is implied.

Thanks Dmitri.
WC, lid-less air-box w/high-flow filter, Stucchi X-over and free-flow mufflers along with fueling correction is the most bang for your buck you can get. The "Race ECU" fuels the bike pretty horrifically for the U.S. market. It's best to just have me re-flash the stock ECU, and if that doesn't perfect it, I can now offer the Power Commander V and AutoTune (amazing dynamic on-the-fly auto correction). Happy to discuss it further via direct e-mail; Todd at GuzziTech.com
