Fuel Filter Question

Hi, this may be a silly question, but after my Griso has stopped twice because the fuel filter and pump parted company in it's 6000 mile life - first with the original and then with the warranty mod. (dealer fitted!)
My question is why is a filter fitted at all , and if needed surely it should be on the pump inlet and not outlet?

You need a filter because the injectors can't handle any large particles. It is on the pressure side on FI vehicles as filter requirements are higher and that fine a passage probably wouldn't work on the suck side. Are you sure you got the updated hose and the correct oetiker clamps were used?

Use proper submersible petrol pipe and throw the poxy clamps as far as you can in the direction of Mandello. Use proper screw and nut type band clamps, and make sure they`re tight `cos if the rubber should ever go soft, off it`ll come.

Well thanks for the replys.
It's a fair comment about the injectors not liking solids but that applies to any fuel injected engines, but many of the big bike makers have not seen the need to include a filter.
All I can say is that a London based Guzzi dealer has updated the records to say my griso has had the mod. Though when I took the empty tank off you could hear the filter flapping around - which as the mod requires (as I understand it) the filter to be strapped to the side of the pump that should not happen, and I do wonder if ' they ' may have just reconnected the line. Of course the strap could have failed too .........
Also as when the 'quick release' fuel line is disconnected, fuel pours out as if there is no off position so I looked no further and took it to my local dealer in the hope of getting the work done under warranty.

Oh and which way is Mandello?

Cheers

I added some safety wiring to the clamps after the dealer did his version of the repair. The dealers repair never failed for me but I had things apart recently and did not like they way it looked so I added some safety wire to help hold things together.
