 noticed this on my way back from work. Used duct tape to seal it and rode home. My local dealer doesn't 'think' he's got a replacement :? :? Help!!

It's just a dust cover to access timing marks, etc. It's not too big if deal for it to be open for a short time (old bikes often don't have them at all). They are fairly cheap, so I'd just buy a few to keep. Can you order from Agostini Italia direct? If not, I can send you some here from the States. Let us know.

p.s. Great avatar pic BTW.

Much appreciated Todd! And thanks for the quick reply.
I'll give the local dealer a few days and if they don't have the seal ill let you know. I do have a shipping address in NY so please PM me with costs and shipping. :D :D

I'd buy the OEM from Todd, but I have it on good (enough) authority that several brand of bourbon-bottle corks will do the trick as a temp fix in various Guzzi applications. ;)

Here are two examples; predict you would have similar results in your case.

Cork Authority

Bill,

That cork method will only work so long as the cork stays wet. Will require periodic replacement as the cork dries and the item falls out. However, I'm sure you have replacements on standby, just keep them wet until used on the bike.

There is a solution for that...

Funny vid.

But, laugh as you will, my earlier post about using bourbon corks was serious. My EV crash bars have those mounted after several years. They are a bit oversize so no need to do any "cork soaking." They stay in place.

I have also kept a look out -- so far unsuccessful -- to find some really small decals of numbers so I could apply those to the cork tops. That way, when the beemerist asks me about them, I can say that they are harmonic dissonance meters, needed to ensure that all periodics are at the proper fundamental frequency.

FWIW, I have found Knob Creek corks best suited to this purpose because of their knurled edges.

The same thing happened to me about a month back. My local MG dealer was able to tape over the opening for the time being and order the part which is now in place and working fine. Both local dealers indicated it is not a huge problem.

FWIW - Do not push in on the new plug after the engine is hot . I put a bit of pressure on it shortly after riding and half of it went into the hole. Had to get a good set of needle nose to pull it back out and re-install it correctly. Also, I ordered a rear luggage rack and noticed that Piaggio, for whatever reason, sends you about 4 of these plugs with the rack - why, no idea but they do. Check out the AF-1 Racing website under the MG Griso 1200 accessory page. Just scroll down a bit and it's on the left. They are the same as the plug you buy separately for like 2-3 bucks or so.

Cheers

Thanks mate. I've since replaced the cap from the local dealer - It cost me about $6 here and took about 4 weeks to receive.

I think the plugs sent with the rack are to use if you remove the rack. You can then use the plugs in the holes that remain.

Glad to hear it Bounty. I noticed my plug was missing about 15 minutes into my 2nd ride of the season as the bike sounded a bit louder. I don't live too far from a Guzzi dealer and decided to risk it and see if I could make it a few more kilometers. I thought, there is no oil coming out so maybe it's ok and it was.

Kiwijohn - Thanks, I agree with you re. the plugs which come with the rear rack.. When I installed the rack, this crossed my mind but I never really bothered to try to fit them into the holes created by the drill. I think I just eyeballed the size of the plugs and hole and decided it wouldn't work. Nice to know they will work and that does make perfect sense as to why they were shipped with the rack. Handy though that they are the same size as the dust cover plug.
