so i hit what was (apparently, i never even saw it) pothole at about 65-70 tonight in the midst of a right hand bank on the freeway, which hit so violently it knocked my mirrors loose and actually knocked me off my seat. Both rims are severely bent at the sight of the impact, pulling the edge of the rim about 1/4" away from the tire (how they stayed beaded, i will never know). My rear rim was bent out far enough that it struck my carc as my wheel went around.

Also, my front shocks seem a little bouncy and they groan. I don't know if they groaned before or not, but they do now. the bouncy thing may be me focusing on it, i am not sure.

So:

1) I am pretty sure the wheels can be repaired, i've seen worse. Anybody reccomend a good company in the Los Angeles area?

2) what is the likelyhood i've ruined my shock valves? Are revalve kits available for these, and if so, how much does it cost?

Thanks,
-Clam

1. There are a few good repair places here in L.A., but know it will cost ~$150, and re-powder-coat costs. I have a spare I can sell you, e-mail me.
2. Assume you mean forks, yes? If so, not very likely. They are built for abuse. The only real failure point is the seals. There are exceptions of course. If you want, I have the Matris R Fork Kit in stock, big $; https://www.guzzitech.com/store/produc ... pathway-16 (use the drop down to see the Griso parts) - I also have a KE and R shock in stock.

Clam, before you assume anything is wrong with the front end loosen the lower triple clamp bolts on the front tubes, and loosen the front axle and bounce the front end a couple of times.. everything should line up easily and quickly and tighten/torque everything back up. if not then loose the top triples with a front stand (under the steering head or hang the bike. it takes a lot to damage inverted forks.

Watch your seals though because you could have bent a stanchion tube if it's still handling funky (you will see a fork seal go sooner then).

That sucks, i don't miss the potholes in Houston,Texas that could swallow cars.
Glad you didn't get thrown off.

So yesterday i found my pothole.

It's about 8 inches wide, the full thickness of the asphault deep (about 4 inches) and about 3 feet long, and looks EXACTLY like a skid mark at night, which is when I hit it.

calling caltrans...

Where is it?

on the CA14 south onramp from via princessa. it's in the bend where the onramp paralells the freeway, in the outside lane close to the dashed line.

Can you file a claim with CalTrans? I think they have a certain timeframe to repair a pothole once it's been reported - maybe someone before you called it in?

Worth a phone call.
