Hey Crew,

I'm the new proud owner of a 04 California Guzzi. I attempted to gas up at the end of my last ride with no luck. The key went in. The key turned. The gas cap did not come off? I tried messing with it for a while with no luck. Any advice on how to fix this without spending all my money at the dealer? I don't even think I have enough gas to make it there..

I can tell you what the NORMAL problem is. The NORMAL problem is that the cap is stuck, and the key will not turn. If you turned the key, then I have no clue what your problem is.

NORMALLY, there is a plastic piece inside the cap that the fuel causes to swell, and it sticks.

You can remove all of the screws around the cap to get it off.
There is a pin through the cap under the key that you should be able to pull. Note the orientation. It looks wrong, that is the correct way. When you disassemble the cap, you commonly find the metal and plastic bits stuck together. Use a dremel or such grinder to remove plastic where it goes up inside the metal. Put back together.

You say yours turned though, so I don't know. Was it really hard to turn?
Also, there is a new all metal cap available I hear.

It happened to me with my Aluminum, I kept wiggling the key and gas cap ever so slightly for it to vent (that's what's causing your problem)........... when it finally vented (you'll hear the vacum break) I took the rubber out from the gas cap (I know, but I always kept a tank bag on it and was careful when i washed it) hope this helps

The sealing "ring" that the cap fits into is turning with the cap. Undo the allen screws and remove the whole kit and caboodle to fix.

If you have a venting problem, remove the one-way valve in the tank vent hose that is part of the evap system. It's usually black with a check ball in it. Sometimes they're stuck or put in backward from the factory. Also sometimes the factory pinches the hose.
