I have a 2005 Breva 1100 in the UK.

Over the winter I want to change these fluids as they are due a change on mileage.
I cant work out which one is for the 6 speed gearbox and which one is for the Carc final drive unit on this website http://www.gutsibits.co.uk/pr/TheShop/i ... e=2#topbar

It appears is one has a mineral 80w90 and one is a mineral 85w90. Can someone tell which one needs which fluid.

Also would using synthetic gear oil be a worth while upgrade?

Lastly does this have to be motorcycle specific as i can source car gear oil very easily as i work in car parts.

Both use the same oil, and both can be full synth. Gear oil is gear oil with some rare exceptions. I've used Mobil1 Full synth 75w-90 to Redline ShockProof, and everything in between... with zero issues.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there a benefit to using fully synthetic over mineral?

Why do you use the same oil for transmission and final drive unit?

Synthetic is more resistant to breakdown of their molecules. Logistics is the reason for the same oil. Both assemblies do fine with 75W90 so why purchase and stock more than one weight?

A 75w-90 fully synth works just fine for our UK weather temperatures, the 75w allows it to let go of first gear when it's cold in winter. I've been using Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle 75W-90 for a few years and it's easy to get hold of, even Halfords stock it at a reasonable price.
