First time replacing the transmission and final drive oil.

The manual is not much help. It list 2 transmissions
1 at 500cc I assume this is the Transmission

2 at 380cc I assume this is the Final drive
No mention of oil weight

What is the recommended weight for each?

Thanks

There is a recommended products list in the manual. It is the same for all years

From the Manual.......

AGIP GEAR SAE 80 W 90 Transmission oil (Carc)
AGIP GEAR MG/S SAE 85 W 90 Gearbox oil

Just remember that when you fill the Carc to fill it off the center stand with the bike on both wheels (as per the service manual). Only way you will get it all in. I fill it on the side stand and then tilt is level for the last bit.

I fill the CARC with the bikes on my lift table (both wheels in contact). Never can get the full 380cc in, but then it isn't completely dry. For the gearbox, I have the bike on the side stand and add the 500cc. May be slightly overfull, but so far no oil out the breathers.

Thanks for the reply.
Don't know why this info isn't in manual.
One more question: I noticed the 10-60 oil is hard to find and expensive $20 per L

Are there any options out there for same weight oil at a better price?

I've been using RedLine 10-60 at about $13.5/qt, but I buy by the case and so I haven't bought in a while - prices may have risen in the mean time.

I've used a Maxima 15w50 ester based $55 for 4qts. They make a 10w60 and found it on Amazon for $50/ 4qts with free shipping.

NAPA Auto Parts sells Liqui Moly RaceTech, a quality German 10w60 used in BMW M-series cars, for about $10 per liter. Smaller stores don't stock it, but you can order online and pick it up locally on 24 hours notice. Been using it for a couple of years in a couple of Guzzis with good results.

I read this and found it very confusing: I know what the Transmission is and it is sometimes referred to as a gearbox.
Then it says CARC which I thought was another word for the Bevelbox or final drive...
And why do they list 2 oils with just 5w difference. I thought maybe it was a misprint because I came across some Royal Purple Full Synthetic 75W90 and 75W140

Anyone see a problem using the 75W90 in both cases Trans and Final?
