Most of the roads down here are pretty straight & boring. Period. BUT>> if you invest a little time getting lost on Sundays eventually you can put together an amazing ride.
Yesterday (Sunday Oct 13th) I took two of my brothers on a 300 plus mile, all day ride on some of the best riding roads anywhere & there was nothing boring about it. A lot of curves from sharps to sweepers thru beautiful country side with very little traffic, I was a bit worn out by the time we got home. We only touched the tips of a few “cities” but we were thru them in a heartbeat and honestly it was a nice break to slow down. Some of the straight roads were boring of course but it's a small price to pay.
There were quite a few road changes so I had to ride point a lot but most of the changes were made at stop signs where I would give the next route changes. It worked out very well except for my older brother who didn't pay attention when he was lead dog. I would have to pass him to signal the turn or catch him & turn him around. He doesn't ride fast so it wasn't bad. I had printed riding directions but they didn't have tank bags or map holders so it didn't help.
My younger brother doesn't own a bike but he is an excellent rider. I borrowed a lady friends Honda VTX 1300 for him and I have to say I am impressed with that bike. As stated he does not own a bike and only gets to ride about 3 times a year but he had no problems setting a fine fast pace clipping many corners at speeds of 70 to 80 mph. I've never been partial to Jap bikes but I would not mind trying a VTX for a day & I'm taking the owner on the same ride next Sunday, she's an excellent rider also & not afraid of speed & curves.
We left Alachua Fl after breakfast (they had to ride up from Ocala) around 9:30 am & we were back in Gainesville around 5pm. We stopped for fuel a number of times, took one lunch break in a county park and other than high five-ing at stop signs we pretty much rode non-stop. I'll admit that for the first time in a long time I was just plain wiped out at the end of the ride, there was that much cornering making it necessary to actually ride! Got a text from my youngest brother who had to drive his cage back to Orlando right after the ride that said: “ Seems strange to have to go so slow after riding today” I'll bet he was doing 75 mph on the interstate.
Anyone who comes to the Gainesville Fl area and wants to ride the best roads in Florida on a Sunday contact me.
