Amperage on plug-in sockets

I purchased a Slime Compressor/Inflator for the occasional flat tire and inflation. The instructions say to be sure the cigarette style plugin sockets are at least 15 amps. My '13 Stelvio only list the wattage (50 watts). Is the amperage sufficient to power an inflator for around 8-10 minutes with the motor turned off?

Watts equals volts times amps. So take 50 watts, and divide that by 12 and you get 4.1 amps. The answer is no if the manual is correct. Probably fine for charging your cell phone. The easy solution is to add a pigtail with a 15 amp fuse directly from the battery. It sounds like the compressor could draw up to 180 watts at start up which is a pretty good load. Running, the draw is probably much less.

Looking at Carl's schematic, it looks like the power outlet is fed by the 30 amp fuse which would give you plenty of wattage (360 to be exact). The limiting factor for 50 watts may be the gauge of the wire, or again an issue of not very good Guzzi documentation.

Blows the fuse..... I have the little Slime compressor and it blew the fuse almost immediately . I have the little plug for a battery tender and as John mentioned it works great.

It blew the 30 amp fuse in the bike?

I have used a Slime compressor on mine 5 or 6 times now. No issues. Well, other than needing to plug yet another tire.

Wow--this is great feedback. I think I will go with JKnight611's advice since I also have a pigtail for my battery tender that fits the Slime cord. ?!

This forum is great!!
Thanks

Wayne, my 2 power plugs ( on the dash and under the seat) are powered by a 5 amp fuse in the fuse box just forward of the steering head near where the dearly departed evap. canister resided. I also have my PCv Auto tune powered by that lead that goes to the rear plug, so I have even less amps available. The Slime compressor does work well tho.
