Problems with Termignoni pipe on Griso

Hi all

I bought my Griso new in 08 with a Termignoni fitted. After about 18 months the bike started not wanting to rev past 6k. Investigations revealed the pipe was to blame. Looking into the inlet end, you could see what looked like a tennis ball - with no holes for the gas to go through. Is that the cat? Anyway - it was blocked. The dealer fitted a new one. And all was well.

Until now. At 22k miles, it won't rev past 6k. And guess what? Yes- the can has a blocked up tennis ball in it again.

Why is it eating expensiveTermignonis?

The better question is why are your mates stuffing tennis balls in your tailpipe? :p

Any more thoughts on what is causing this?

I have taken the Termignoni off and put the original pipe back on. I know some folk like them, but I think it hit every branch of the ugly tree when it fell out.

Looking at the Termignoni, the pproblem is definitely with the cat. It looks like it has overheated and welded itself into a solid lump - and it really does look like a metalic tennis ball. I could understand an isolated failure, but two pipes with the same fault?

sounds like you might have a spark problem and fueling issue. I know on bike where the spark plug cables or the connector failed and then the spent fuel ignited in the exhaust fused the cat ... If you haven't replaced the spark plug caps with NGK you need to ASAP. Get the spark fixed first.. and burn the cat out of those Termi's or bang it out.. No reason to buy another pipe with a cat..

Hi,

I think it's a fuell problem when the Termignoni is onto the bike.
Probably the exhaust damp is too hot and melted your cat.
It will happen when your bike is running much too lean.
Check your lambda if it is working okay.

The two main causes for cat-con issues are exhaust valve problems, or fouled plugs causing unburned fuel to overheat the converter. I would have a competent dealer or mechanic check the motor for issues.

I've just had roller cam followers fitted after my fourth cam failure- this time it was the exhaust in the rhs. Could this be connected to cooked cats?

OK, so the Guzzi tech department say that the valve problem isnt connected to the cooked cats.Hmmm. The bike is fitted with NGK plug caps.

The good news is that Custmer Service have decided to give me a new Termignoni as compensation for the cam problems.

Any thoughts about how long this one will last, and anything I should be doing to encourage it to last a reasonable time?
