Is there anyone anywhere supplying or have the solution to the follower/cam issue independant of Moto Guzzi themselves, I've spent days searching the Internet with zero results.

Also there are zero results from the factory only some rumors surrounding what the factory has done, seemingly started by sources other than the factory.

Thanks John but as I said, I've done this site, wildguzzi and the Internet in general to death on a search for a solution that is confirmed to have been successful. Even though there's a lot of talk about roller followers there is only one person who has actually had the conversion done and it's only recent and not stood the test of time yet.

I agree with the majority that have suffered the problem, I have no faith in the "upgraded" replacement parts from Guzzi as it appears they are not any different from the original, I suspect they are playing a game where time will catch up with the 8V engine and they will no longer offer any warranty on them at all.

I also wonder if the damaged parts are being sent back to the factory, refurbished and redistributed, would certainly make economical sense if the plan is to let time catch up on the engines.

Sooner or later those of us who stick with the bike will need to buy the gear ourselves to keep em going but when it comes to that, I sure as hell won't be buying the Guzzi stuff, so it may be a good time to start looking for alternatives, or look into the posibilities of having my own made.

Fredly, I believe you are looking for Kit A, B or C which has been released in some distribution areas. Each of the kits are designed for different series engines. Kit C is for the A5 engines. I don't know too much more but these "should" be available through authorised Guzzi service agents

Fredly,
1st question what year model is your bike?
2nd question have the cams shit themselves or are you just pre-empting future trouble?

Mine, a 2008 8v valve (now dead due to crash) and the model claimed to be most at risk of failure had done 60,000km on the upgraded recall cams without ant trouble. This included a high speed 11,500km trip to WA and back from Sydney in pretty extreme temperature's.
If you have not already had a failure I wouldn't presume you will have one if the engine is properly maintained i.e. oil and filters changed regularly with a full synthetic 10/60w spec oil, if you go cheap on this requirement you are asking for trouble and you can't blame Guzzi.
If you have had a failure the chance of sourcing parts from anyone other than Guzzi is probably about .0001% so you will likely have to place faith in the parts available.
I think that it is a rare occurrence for cams on Australian based bikes to fail and on those that have, it would appear they are often maintenance related.

If you have had a failure it is essential to pull the engine to bits and clean out all remnants of metal resulting from the damage, this especially applies to the oil pump and oil lines as failing to do this can result metal components being pumped through the engine causing more extreme damage. If the oil pump is damaged it will need to be repaired or replaced.
Any remotely intelligent and competent tradesman would do this as a matter of good engineering practice but don't presume it will be done without requesting this additional work as part of the rebuild.

I am extremely pleased to to say that all is good and has worked out better than I had imagined it could.
Tom Newell helped me through the process of getting the warranty replacement/conversion kit (C), it took a bit of time and we had to jump through some hoops but as soon as Paggio was satisfied all was above board the kit was approved and sent out.
The kit has been fitted and I'm as happy as a pig in shit, me smile is back to make me face look like a split watermelon.
The kit consisted of redesigned cams to suit the roller followers, when you compare the new and old cams the profiles look very different due to the small footprint of the roller followers, also in the kit is a new cam and follower housing with roller followers and a good selection of gaskets, o rings and seals.
The engine was almost completely stripped down and meticulously cleaned of any hidden metal fouling, including the oil cooler and all hoses, not a geat deal was found but it was present, the oil pump passed inspection.
The bike has been back on the road for a week now, of course the terrifying noise emanating from it previously has disappeared, it is amazing how much noise was generated by the failing follower and it only ever was just one of them, and also the area where the noise seemed to be comming from, the clutch/gearbox area, who would have thought one tiny little follower could speak so loudly and throw its voice to the other end of the engine?
I had thought that there was no chance of warranty as the bike is 4 years old and has done 25,000 K so I had gone to Ivan Tighe Cams and spoke with Dean Tighe, apon seeing the cams and the damaged follower he imeadiatly said that the two metals were incompatible for street use, for racing purposes they are perfect but due to the engine being subject to low speed running in street use at least one component (preferably the cam) needs to be made from a cast iron as that is able to tolerate a degree of metal to metal contact as the oil film breaks down at low engine rpm, we formulated a plan to make a cast iron cam with me footing the development costs of the first set, jeez I'm glad I didn't have to go down that road.

I'd like to thank all the guys that have offered advice for me on this site ; )

If there is a kit for the A5 motor i would like one, will willinly pay for one and anyone who could tell me where how to purchase one will be my friend for life......regards Joe

Fredly,

You got your bike repaired under warranty? Also the labour costs?
Did your Guzzi dealer all the maintenance those 4 years or did you do that yourself?
In the Netherlands, if you are out of the warranty (2 years) and the maintenance is allways done by a Guzzi dealer.
You get the material under warranty, labour costs you have to pay.
If that happens to me, I have to pay everything myself.
It's a hobby of me to work on my bike (G12).
My G12 hasn't seen a Guzzi shop inside the last 3,5 years...
I do use original parts for almost everything, surely oil and filter

Enjoy your Guzzi.
