got the new exhaust system from Todd on my bike (which I'll post a ride report soon). The bike is completely transformed for sure with the remapped ECU to go along with, but I got the damned decal popping that wont go away, but what can you do. The new headers are still blueing a tiny bit, and I thought they wouldn't blue at all, just get golden yellowish. It's definitely nowhere near the amount of blueing I had on the stock headers. Makes me wonder, because I ran into a dude with the same v7 with stock setup and nothing done to it and his pipes barely had any blue...what the heck? Jesus, my oem headers were blue as hell about 8-10 inches out of the heads. Is he riding this thing like a grandma or what? I know it's a question of running lean but these are the same bike, so is it something to do with a valve adjustment as well? Anywho, thanks.

what kind of exhaust system did you get for the bike?

Bummer on the decal popping. I have Arrows on my bike and there is no decal popping. I WAS toying with the idea of drilling out the DB killers on the pipes since they are not removable but I'm not going to F up a system that is working perfectly. I'm certain if I drilled those suckers out I'd be pop pop popping down the road.

I've got Todd's 2-2 full system with ECU reflash. They didn't come with DB killers. The bike rides amazing and the sound, Jesus the sound is beautiful. But, the decel popping is annoying man.

Have you spoke with Todd about this?
Seems to me proper mapping should eliminate the popping.

Yea I have. Not sure what's up. He remapped the ECU. I reinstalled the exhaust thinking maybe a leak. The evap is plugged. I did drill my airbox lid but told him about that before the remap. I'm exhausted mentally and physically from the whole thing to be honest. I'm certainly not removing the throttle body again to send back, hell no...once was enough.

Without igniting a flame wars - it is most definitely the mapping. Unfortunately, as shipped, the ECU still gives fuel to the injectors, even though you have closed the throttle and are nowhere near idling revs - you will get some burbling as you get close to the idling rpm.

This is like being between a rock and a hard place - cut the fuel completely you get good engine braking and no popping and an on/off effect from the throttle at low openings OR you can have a small amount of fuel so the whole process is smoother rolling on/off the throttle and popping. This is the fine line Todd walks when he does a modified map. Getting it just right would require quite a bit of effort on each bike - our bikes are as individual as you and me - I doubt anyone has the time to do this and still turn a profit - unless you want to go down that road yourself...

There may be some leakage in the exhaust seals, there may be not. Every piece you touch on the bike (well around the engine inlets/exhausts) has an effect - some quite small and others annoyingly obvious. Remember it is a Moto Guzzi after all and that is part of the reason we like them, isn't it?

I like character but something about decel popping is unsettling y'know. It's making a great sounding exhaust not so great y'know. The new headers are still blueing a bit out of the heads when I thought they would only turn a golden yellow. Something is telling me it's still running lean perhaps. Maybe I'll buy a new airbox lid cause I have a drilled one on now.

Before buying another lid, just apply duct tape to the outside of the drilled lid to seal off the holes. If it makes a difference, you have your answer, if not, keep digging.

Francod123, Lucky you don't have a 1200 Sport - they are atrocious for popping on the overrun on a standard map. Took a bit of effort to cure mine. Put an open exhaust (Todd's Reverse Cone Megaphone) on and it is deafening - though sorted now.

Not to mention many bikes pop a bit on decel even with stock exhaust, but since they are so much quieter it goes unnoticed.

Thanks john, that's a good tip.

I have Todd's reverse cone too, plus headers. The headers are larger in diameter too.

I rode yesterday for a bit and it's not so bad, and am learning to quiet the decel pop with throttle control upon deceleration.

FYI this is not to detract anything from Todd's system/work. The bike rides like a dream now and is completely transformed. The sound is down right kick ass. I remember watching a vid of a dude's v7 classic on YouTube with staintune megs and the sound coming from that thing was awesome, had that classic sound. I was hoping it would be something like that, well it is and more.
