I just purchased a 2011 V7 Classic with 1200 miles on it from the MG dealer in Charlotte. I have had the bike 3 days and absolutely love it. It is the perfect compliment to my 2014 Street Triple R, because it could not be more different in good ways.

I really loved the bike on my test ride, I actually rode a 2011 Demo Stone with Agostino exhaust while the sales person was putting gas in the V7C. After riding both I preferred the white V7C in looks and it seemed to run smoother. On my way home I noticed that once the bike got hot I could hear what sounded like the valve noise under hard acceleration. It was somewhat intermittent and seemed most prevalent at RPM's under 3K. I thought this could be detonation due to lower than required octane gas. So I stopped near my house at a gas station that offers ethanol free 93 gas and filled up. Since then I have put about 200 miles on the bike always using the same gas to try and get the bike running on 93 non ethanol gas. The bike is getting 51.1 mpg. I know most engines run fine on gas with ethanol but with this tank on this bike it makes sense. I am curious if the ticking under acceleration at low rpm is common or could this be something else?

Upon getting out the manual I found a note from the previous owner detailing things done to the bike.

1. Transfer warranty
2. Gas Tank Problems and Vent Upgrade
3. Remove Evap Cannister
4.Set Temp Gauge
5. First Service
6. Transmission Oil
7. Differential Oil
8. Steering Alignment

Hopefully this list can convey some useful info. I did confirm that the evap can is gone other than that the bike appears to be totally stock. The salesperson did let me know they went ahead and put new Pirelli Sport Demons on it.

I would love to have peace of mind or eliminate the occasional rattle sound. I have also read a bit about exhaust upgrades and all the emulators, crossovers that may be required. I would love a little more rumble but I am not sure it is worth adding what appears to be $1000 minimum to get it? Is there another way without having to spend that without upsetting the bike reliability? The bike starts and runs perfect now and I love how it looks and the power is fine as I said I have other bikes for that, this bike is just about relaxation and getting back to basics for me.

Thanks for a wonderful site.

Colby

You will hear tappet noises if the valve clearances are correct. If it doesn't make noise, it is not a Guzzi.

Awesome!

Thanks so much, I love the bike.

Now on to advice for making it rumble as efficiently and safely as possible..
