Just for reference, the weight of my 1200 Sport is 226.5kgs with 1/4 tank of fuel, which is almost exactly 500 lbs. It probably still had 6+ litres in the tank so the dry weight would be somewhere around 222 which is the same as the Griso.

To weight it, I used bath scales and got 114 on the front and 117 on the rear. The timber used to protect the bath scales was 2.25kg (measured using the kitchen scales which are very accurate). By comparison I am 109 kgs on those scales which is about right.

My bike is a 2007 Sport with no weight saving changes except an SSD LYPO battery. It has the original pipe, although slightly modified, and has as new Pilot Road 3 tyres so no weight gains there either.

Mal,

The original Documentation oscillated between 225 kg, 228 kg and 230 kg - fully filled with liquid - I suspect it was just a number plucked out of a dark crevice, for marketing purposes. Pick one to suit. Take off your muffler and put on something decent and you will save kgs; lose weight save more kgs; the rest of it is hard to glean any more weight savings as you start to turn it into a Breva.

I usually load mine up with a further 60kg when I go off to rallies - all fine from my perspective (I weigh over 86 kg on a good day, more on others). She be up to the task methinks...

Thanks Tony. I had read many different weights in forum posts and they varied wildly. No surprise really considering the official manuals gave some wildly varying weights for these machines. To be honest I think its a case of cut and paste and poor editing but check out the official kerb weight for the 2008 1200 Sport ABS below. :)

Yea its heavy. So what. It is what it is. The 1200 is no "sport" but is still an excellent all purpose fun fast enough riding experience. I load this thing with camping gear and it has no noticeable ill effects . Good Guzzi.

Hi 2Laner, my point was that the 1200 Sport is not as heavy as people think. There are not many torquey shaft drive bikes suitable for big guys that are any lighter. Against other touring bikes its a lightweight.

I with you Mal. I have mine around 500lb, and I think that's pretty good for what it is. I'm a big dude, pushing 250Lb without any pants on! I need a machine that can tool around with out a care, even with my big lard on it!
