Rear hugger slap over bumps.

I've let this problem persist too long, getting annoying now, wonder if anyone can help ??
Rear hugger fitted fine, and seems sturdy. But when over bumps, flexes and gives a slapping noise, as though something loose. Also noticed a mark on top of hugger where suspension has depressed and bottom of seat banged it -- especially when 2 up. Have had rear suspension set at hardest, but problem still occurs.
Anything I can do about hugger flex, and/or suspension.
Yours gratefully......

'Hugger slap' is a problem with every aftermarket hugger I've ever had on a single sided swinging arm. They just aren't rigid enough and there's no decent purpose-made place to fix them too on the 'bare' side of the bike. However the CARC Guzzis aren't the worst I've had for hugger slap by a long way. I'm surprised the suspension has compressed enough for the seat to hit the hugger. I never had that problem in 50k miles on my Grisos - not even 2 up with full luggage! It might be worth checking that damage wasn't caused by something else?? And check the hugger isn't damaging the tyre too! In the end there's no solution, you either have to live with the slap or ditch the hugger.

What sort of hugger is it, never had that problem with the skidmarx one I had.

The only problem I had with my Skidmarx one was the rubbish brackets. It took some care to fit it straight & level - if it wasn't it could 'slap' against the tyre. By the time I'd got my second Griso I'd resorted to making my own stronger stainless steel brackets & using rubber washers to space it off the tyre a bit more.

Thanks for replies. My bike is G8V 2008.
The hugger is the standard black plastic Guzzi one.
Regarding the shock sock, surely this will not affect the depression caused by going 2 up with heavy luggage ?? -- therefore not cure hugger slap. Is it possible to fit a better rear shock / stiffer spring, than my standard Guzzi rear shock ??

If you put the sock on the shock, you don't need the hugger to protect the shock. That will eliminate any slap from the hugger as it will no longer be on the bike.
