Ok, so my dealership closed over a year ago and I need to do my first oil change... I purchased a Bosch 3330 replacement and anticipating issues with pulling the recessed OEM filter have a question about cap wrench size---Does anyone know if I will need to purchase 2 cap wrenches (one to pull the OEM and another for the 3330) or are both filters the same size and 1 cap wrench will do for both?

Count the flutes on your stock filter, and you'll have your answer. I suspect you will need two. I use THIS tool for removal.

Heh Dave, well, your OEM filter. I've had a dozen plus UFI's through my shop that weren't. ;)

The 3330 uses the same oil filter wrench as BMW R oil heads except the 1200s. Bosch makes the filters for BMW.

They were originally 8 flute, but went 14 flute some years ago; both 74mm dia from memory.

The Cali 1400 has a different filter and wrench to match. The Bosch 3330 will fit, but sticks out the bottom.

Guzzi still has a ton of 8 flute filters all the current '14 bikes i have seen still have 8 flute filters, and Piaggio is still shipping 8 fluters it is the same 8 flute wrench as a ducati filter. use the universal 3 finger for removal (buy a good one the cheapos usually will not grab it hard enough the factory cranks the shit out of the filter on install)

uzidzit, I bow to your superior experience. I haven't purchased a new Guzzi this year (yet). But I will stick to the wrenches that engage the flutes; I've had no issues with these, except a cheepo I purchased from Pep Boys that didn't really fit for the Cali 1400. Luckily Harper's released their excellent but expensive version.

there is a new pretty cheap $14 filter wrench for the cali filter. It is the same as the bmw k1200 filter wrench (for the factory filter), Just noticed the eight flute thing two weeks back looking over a bunch of new bikes, and saw new 8 fluters coming out of the new shipment of parts at our dealer straight from Italy going into stock...They must have a lot of those old filters because the part number in the catalog shows it superceeded with the new filter (two years back) but they are shipping the old one when you order the new number. Funny every one else has the 14 flute filters (but I have yet to see one in a piaggio box)
