I want to improve the engine braking on my g11

Hi,

The engine braking on the Griso is nothing to write home about, but someone I met on a ride told me that it can be improved by adding some kind of valve/switch device that affects the way the stepper motors work. Sorry, a bit vague on the actual system. Does anyone know what this system is called, is it any good, and where can I obtain one in the UK ?

Many thanks

Rob

It can be vastly changed (personally I can't see the attraction of heavy engine braking) but a simple re-map can give you a lot or very little, for almost no money

Rob, search Stepper Motor here on this Forum. The Stepper flows air constantly, and is used to control idle. Stopping the flow helps with engine braking somewhat, but not a ton. Mapping will help, and I have many options under the Store > Fueling - or contact me direct for more info.

Hi, thanks. I have read some of the posts and some of them refer to a valve that was sold via Guzzitech. I don't seem to see it in the store. Has it been discontinued ? This is the device that I saw on this other guy's machine.

Thanks

Rob

Hi, I live in an area of the UK with great roads, but with many bends which the Griso loves, but I miss the availability of the sort of engine braking my old strada had which was good to have on these roads.

I will look at remapping. Not sure who locally can do that for me at the moment. Guzzi workshops are a bit thin on the ground here.

Thanks

Rob

Todd had a device that allowed handle bar control of turning the steeper motor system on or off. There is also a thread or two on this site that talks about adding a manual valve to allow turning the stepper motor system on or off. It is what I did to mine. It is easy to do and does give a little more engine breaking than stock. Shifts seem smoother and there is more decel when you shut the throttle, but not a drastic difference.

That great, thanks for the info. I will try and find those threads and have a go myself. I don't think the handlebar mounted device is available in the store anymore, or at least I could not see it.

Thanks

Thanks Mike... Sorry Rob, the kits are long gone. You'll find the manual valve is cost effective and functional.

Thanks. I thought I was going mad.

The manual valve will do me fine.

Thanks

My B11 manual (p52) says "Do not use engine braking or the clutch may overheat". What are they getting at here? I don't see how you can ride a motorbike otherwise.

Perhaps they were cautioning against using slipping the clutch to hold you ( i.e., as a brake) on a hill.
Sometimes the translation just does not translate.
