Greetings. I am about to change the oil and filter on my 2008 Breva 1200 Sport for the first time. However, I cannot find any information on which oil filter it takes. The owners manual does not include this information. Any help? Also, the owners manual recommends AGIP 4t 10w 60. It's quite hard to find and expensive. I went on to Amazon and they had Liqui-Moly 10w 60 full synthetic but it doesn't meet some of the same specs as the AGIP. Do all of you out there use the AGIP oil or have you found one that is comparable? Any information would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks.

I believe the Bosch 3330 filter fits your bike as well as my 1100. I got a cap filter wrench from a BMW motorcycle dealer that fits it perfectly. The Liqui-Moly should be fine—as long as it is full-synthetic 10W60, brand is relatively unimportant. Red Line for me, ordered from Jegs, but I also think about ordering Liqui-Moly from the local NAPA—no over-the-counter 10W60 here.

Also HiFlow HF551 for the filter.
One problem I found was the stock UFI filter had a different drive hex form to the Hiflow so ended up with 2 different sockets.

No problem getting Agip here and not to badly priced but like gsf12man said any good brand of 10w60 full syn like the Liqui Moly you talked about is fine.

I had a 2007 Norge which probably takes the same filter. I took the junk UFI filter (threw out 2 brand new ones after fighting the leaks) to the NAPA store. They looked at the number on it and handed me a cross referenced filter. I switched to the PureOne equivalent.

+1 one on the PureOne equivalent - Purolator filters are very well rated. Been using them on my 1200 Sport since day one.

Never have had a problem with either the HiFlow or the Purolator. Use whichever is in stock. Avoid UFI. Last three oil changes I used NAPA available Liquid Moly. Seems okay to me but what do I know.

I use Elf 10W60 motorcycle oil. I buy it in a case of 18 liters, about $10 a liter including shipping.

Hi ... oil threads are always confusing and I admit to being confused.
I am about to use HPR 10W-50 Syn in my 2012 Norge on the basis that the high performance 'expensive' bikes have recommended oil
of 10w-40 Syn (Ducati Multistrada, BMW RT)... browsed oil manufacturers sites and noticed those that offered 10W or 15W-60 recommended this and the site that has genuine quality oil offers this as its premium V-Twin specific oil .."Mobil 1™ V-Twin is a 20W-50 oil recommended for 4-stroke V-twin engines, particularly those that are air-cooled and tend to run hotter than other types of engines." re: http://www.mobil1.com.au/academy/myth.aspx
Smart people work in Marketing and Marketing People are always looking for those willing to open their wallets for a 'stand-out-from-the-crowd' product.
Please someone ... Pete Roper could ... convince me that 10W-60 Syn is a MUST and I am taking a risk using Penrite HPR10w-50 Fully Syn in my very special to me Norge?
Its not the price difference - just $10 or so ... its 'knowledge overcomes confusion', I need to know practical reasons, not marketing hype.

Preston, Go with the Penrite 10W70 - I think they call it 10 tenths - accept no other - this is the right oil for a Guzzi (especially according to Roper San). Should be available at SuperCheap or Repco - if not they will order it in for you and if you are getting some ordered in, get the 20 litre drum. Then you will have it on hand for quite a few oil changes. Accept no other, this is really good oil.

ok ... will get the 10w-70.

Oz1200Guzzi, a question on oil filters - what brand and model are you using if not the OEM filter? I am considering a Mobil M-102, this is a rather smaller physical body than the filter on bike (white-unknown type) or RYCO Z632 ... these are Mazda CX-7 filters.
would rather buy these items from local stores than on-line .. no Guzzi dealers within 100kms.
Thanks.

I use HiFlo Filtro and get them from BikeBiz M/C in Parramatta - I usually buy 3 or 4 at a time. They do not have them in stock but usually arrive within a week anyway (few people would have stock of this filter as it is specific to MG). HF551 is the correct one for the 1200 engine. Don't use automotive filters, they are not designed for our beasts of burden.

I don't know what Tony is using, but I've had good performance from the Bosch 3330 filter. These were recommended to be by the service tech for Moto Guzzi in the US. This is the same filter used in BMW oil heads and earlier K bikes.

John,
These bosch, fram and purolator (and many other) filters are not generally available here in OZ.

Bib,
Try(widely available reliable OZ brand) Ryco Z418 it is the closest fit in their range.
I'm using a Z68 which is 30mm longer than standard. Easier to get a grip on but potentially a bit more vunerable.
Be very careful using non standard filters as the seal area dimentions are very important(critical). Due to the limited space in which it sits up in, so is the seam measurement.

This is some of the 3/4 inch thread possibles I've found

ufi/guzzi...seal inner/outer-60/72mm..outer seam-77.5..height-86
Z418 -?/71.2 -77.5 -89
Z68/63 -63/72 -78 -120
Z87A -?/70 -82 -90
The Z418 and Z87A measurements are from the online cross reference/product catelogue and i have not checked them physically.
The UFI and Z68/63 I have checked myself with a vernier!
For example the Z87A fits but the seal is only 70mm in diameter and the seam diameter may interfere with the sump surround.
So you have to decide for yourself if everything lines up and the filter you choose is suitable.

Your local shop can get a couple of Hiflo 551 for you surely
100kms is not that far! it,s only in to Newcastle or Richmond ....go for a ride and buy 2 or 3. At least you know they fit and get some oil while your at it!

My understanding is that they are made by Purolator and the same as a PureONE filter. I prefer them to the UFI.

If you want the genuine Bosch version made in Germany, I believe it is a 72161.

Found this site for that filter.

I don't know if they would ship to you guys, but for the price, it would be worth buying in bulk if they would ship to OZ. I've been using them as a replacement for the 3330.
