I bought my '08 1200 Sport gently used and without a centrestand. There is, of course, a factory-option stand, and I am thinking of ordering one. However, it seems to me that I heard years ago that the stands on this particular model tended to touch down early when cornering.
Any truth to this, or is it a non-issue?
Thanks in advance for opinions on this!
Deryl

Same stand as the Breva and Norge. Trim the heck out of the rubber bumper (leave just 1/8 inch or so) and turn up the suspension and you will be fine. I have one on my 1100 Breva, with no chicken stripes on the back tire, and the stand doesn't touch.

I trimmed the rubber bumper for more cornering clearance, but now with 1/2" lower Goldwing pegs, my left heel sometimes contacts the centerstand lever. There is a little buzz but it's not bad, mostly just the feeling that I'm hitting something. There is not a lot of foot room anyway so I'm used to the contact.

May not be an issue with stock footpegs.

John covered most of it above, but depending on your weight, the best investment you'll make is a rear shock set up for your specs. All of those who have had center stand clearance issues, largely had the issues resolved along with a superior ride by replacing the rear shock. I have several options available on the online store here. Contact me direct email with any questions; Todd at GuzziTech.com

Part of the issue is caused by the lowering of the exhaust to accommodate the bags. This lowers the stop that the stand hits up against.

Struggling to get a stand for my 8v Sport, just learned that MG no longer produce them , and it seems getting hold of a specific workstand is like trying to find the holy grail . Any ideas, before going down the " adapt a paddock stand " route ?

Paddock stand isn't that straightforward, considering a single-sided swinging arm and a CARC that doesn't allow the alternative pin through the back wheel option.

I mounted bobbins on the underside of the pillion footrests, and widened and lengthened a normal swinging arm paddock stand to reach them. Here's what it looks like.

Seems like a good solution, can you remember if the bobbins were for a particular model motorcycle ? Just wondered if some were a better option than others.

Bobbins are Accel brand, but anything would work I reckon. I think I went with either 8 or 10mm mounting screws -there's a bit of weight to support.
