Hi, my first post here, hope someone can help me out.
Bike suddenly stopped. Quickly realized the battery was drained. I started looking for what could have caused this.
After checking that the 30 amp charge fuse was ok I removed the tank and imediately found the problem, or so I thought.
A connector was burnt and one of the wires was loose.
The connector is for the two wires that connect the alternator to the rectifier.
I cut and reconected the wires, but to my dissapointment thee was no charge to the battery when I measured. 12.7 Volts and falling. I reved up the engine above 5000 and still nothing.
Fuse still intact (changed just to be sure).
Looked up the wiring diagram. I used a Volt meter on the regulator and measured between the positive and negative wires going to the battery . Nothing.
Changed setting to alternating current and measured between the phases coming out of the alternator, a week current of 0.5 volts.
Changed to ohms and measured between phase and ground with engine off. The circuit was not ok and did not let any current through to ground.

As I understood from other threads burnt connectors in the charging system is not uncommon on newer Guzzis but I'm not sure what tests to make to make certain that it it the alternator that is failing.
Another wierd thing is that with engine on there is no current flowing to the positive wires of the regullator. As this goes to the battery there should be 12 Volts here even if there is no charege.

I'm in the dark here, what do you suggest I do?

Looks like a classic over-charge scenario. The newer V7's seem to have early sudden death voltage regulators. I suspect once you replace it, all will be back to normal provided the battery is still good. Extended over-charging of the battery will end it's life quick. Alternators rarely go bad on the newer bikes, so as long as the main fuses are good, you should be as well. I have a selection of volt regs in the online Store (tab above) if that is of help.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you are right, that will put me back on the road quick.
Battery is still fine, it's a Li-Io Shurai that I have on all my bikes. Half the size of the original gives me space for my Disc lock and tools. Worth the steep price.
Before replacing, I'm bewildered by the readings between the outputs of the alternator. On the other hand I measured it as if it was a 3-phase generator so I might be totally of about it not giving any current.

Keep us posted. Lith-I batteries are very sensitive to over-charging, and will kill them in short order.

Battery is fine, the Shurai charger gave it thumbs up, cranks bike with no fuss so no damage.
Would the burnt connector be typical of busted regulator?

GT-Rx, did you replace it with oem part or something else like silent hectic?

You can add another '13 V7 to the list, mine is currently charging at 15.2v while at idle. Todd I assume the EMEVR is a better item than the stocker R/R?

Ugh, and add another '13 Stone I just serviced is idling at 14.5v, up to 15.5 @3k RPM.
Yes, any of the offerings on the Store are superior to the OEM unit.

Todd, so in the description in your store it says something like "not supported with lithium ion battery"...is that saying that it won't work if you have an antigravity lith battery, or just not supported under warranty?

EME will not warranty the unit. I'm using it with the AG batteries. There are several other brands where they killed the new EME VR's within a few days.

My '13 Racer was also 15.2V at idle. I've replaced regulators on all my [italian] bikes to a Shindengen FH012AA MOSFET unit which is bullet proof and found on most Japanese bikes as OEM. It's a 3-phase unit, but have it hooked up two phase for the Guzzi and works great.
