Been working on the Eldorado lately. I gave up on the voltage regulator(s) and overcharging my battery (17+ volts) and ordered Kevin's alternator kit from Scrambler Cycle. The VR is gone and only 2 wires are required; one to the coil and one to the battery. Charging is perfect now. I also...
If floats were the culprit then couldn’t you turn on the petcocks until the bowls were full, then turn them off. Then go thru with the start. It should at least fire up.
I’m betting on electrical. What ignition system is installed?
Funny thing is when I go to start the T3 the dogs run for the...
My T3 was doing exactly the same thing. It had spark, plenty of fuel and would backfire when I let off the trigger. I replaced the Lucas electronic ignition with a new Dyna III with new 5 OHM black coils and it fires on the first try. I think my old coils may have been the culprit.
Thanks John and Amboman. I found one on eBay and got it installed in the T3 with the Dyna III. It started right up.
I still have the Rita if anyone is running one and needs spares. The coils are 6v and have 1.6 OHMs resistance. Is this correct? They were wired differently then the black Dyna...
Thanks John. I found a used 311B on Ebay and ordered it. I'm covering at work for a pilot that retired so I'll be on for the next 168 hours straight (7 days :(). If I don't shoot myself between now and then it will at least be waiting for me at home.
I decided to swap out the Lucas Rita ignition that’s been on the T3 for a Dyna III. I ran into a problem when I went to replace the sensor plate and rotor in the distributor. The Rita rotor requires the points cam/lobe to be removed. The Dyna needs it to mount its rotor.
So I need a...
Got some miles on that kickstand. It's the most functional stand on any of my Moto Guzzis; go figure it's a HD piece. I'm glad all the parts were with the bike.
"Yea, those oversized, locking kickstands were unique to the police models."
Best thing about it is that you can park it uphill or...
Lose the T3 tank and try something else. Six gallons is probably too much riding time for what you are going for and the stock tank probably would look bulky on a brat/café build. The LMIII tank is narrower at the front and may fit or just slide the whole assembly back an inch. There really...
Was going thru some parts boxes and found the kickstand and spring. When I put the bike back together this time I put the plastic generator cover on, the chrome head savers and the big loop engine guard / highway bars. This gave me the mounting bracket for the kickstand.
It needs paint but...
Wow! Beautiful bike. My cylinders were much worse than that and caused some damage but thankfully not to the cam or crankshaft. Looks like you got it stopped early. I ended up replacing the cylinders/ pistons, heads and the cam chain tensioner. The engine only had 20K miles.
Good luck.
Pat
Thanks for the tip/reminder Amboman. It’s the only thing I have that’s running points and I had forgotten.
I got the 5 speed back in and buttoned up. It’s amazing how much different it feels especially at highway speeds. I’m not sure what the difference is in final gearing but it’s a much more...
