    Checking UJ wear.

Cheers John I did have a crack at removing it but it would need drifting out which I think would likely do more harm than good which is why I wanted to check it in situ. I have given it a good twist round as far as possible and there's not a sign of play or stiffness and it seems to rotate...

    Checking UJ wear.

At the moment I have the swingarm out of my 99 Cali EV to give it a coat of paint and since it's out I was wondering if there's any way to check for UJ wear. I'm reluctant to remove it as it seems to be in there quite securely and to be honest I have no real reason to suspect wear other than the...

    Cali EV rear wheel removal

Cheers for the link :) Always handy to have more sources of second hand spares. I wanted to explore all avenues of the problem without spending money as funds for rebuilding this bike are very limited, the tyres and shocks I do have to spend out on and possibly seat recovering too but as far as...

    Cali EV rear wheel removal

Success! The pin came out! What appeared to be weld turned out to be some kind of hardened crud around it, possibly old tarmac, it's lucky that I needed to repaint the swingarm anyway as it did take some heat and a long extension bar on the allen key but it did move eventually. Now the wheel...

    Cali EV rear wheel removal

It's a 99 model. It does seem to ride pretty well so I'm hoping the frame and swingarm are ok, the damage that I found was limited to the rear fender, the right hand pannier carrier which has bent upwards, and some scrapes on the right hand crash bar. There was no scraping or rubbing marks...

    Cali EV rear wheel removal

Cheers John I was looking at that peg wondering if I could remove it, it does look suspiciously like it might have been welded in though! I have got round the problem of having to raise the bike to get the wheel past the fender-I now have a short fender and an easily removed licence plate! At...

    Cali EV rear wheel removal

Am I missing something here or is it normal to have to deflate the tyre to get the wheel out? Mine was fouling between the drive housing and the peg on the swingarm that locates the brake hanger, I've got the wheel out now but I'm thinking if I have to refit it with the tyre flat as I only have...

    Cali EV front fender?

Finally the bolts are out! The fender had rotted to the point where it was looking a bit dangerous to ride and since a few other issues need addressing I thought I'd give the bike a makeover! I managed to undo 2 of the bolts by applying heat from a blowtorch, since the fender was junk I wasn't...

    Too Quiet

I'm back on here now, couldn't get logged in for ages after the site was updated-to be honest though I didn't try that often at first as it was summer up here and I was out riding :) Winter is kicking in now though so it's going to be more tinkering than riding, mostly I'll be working on the...

    Radical Guzzi

Nice one :) I always like to hear about people taking an active part in their builds, personally I tend to do as much as possible myself-mainly because I don't have much money to pay anyone else for their work ;)

    Radical Guzzi

I like the way the frame is kicked up at the back there, I think that's going to look pretty smart :)

1999 Bassa Fuel Level sensor fail

    Cheers for that mate :)

    09 Cal Vintage pulsating brakes!

Going back to the pulsing brakes one of my other bikes is a Suzuki GSX1400 and they are notorious for having this problem and it's nearly always down to warped discs. Not saying that the same thing is happening here but it's a fairly easy thing to check for as all you need to is attach a pointer...

1999 Bassa Fuel Level sensor fail

I have the same problem on my Cali EV and as yet haven't tracked down where the problem lies, to make it worse the knob is missing off the trip meter too so I need to get one of those. I do keep looking at the electronic fuel tap though and wondering if I can replace it with an on/off/reserve...

    Cali 1100 EV misfiring

Just a thought here but I'd consider replacing the battery, in my experience once a battery has gone flat even just once they never seem to hold a full charge again and can cause all sorts of problems.

    Cali EV front fender?

I must have another crack at this at some point as I never did manage to get those screws out, I have the same problem with the rear fender and shock absorber mounts so I'm planning to have a go at it over the Christmas holiday.

    Ducati Scrambler 2015...

Having looked into it it seems they will be available for us Brits too and I rather like the look of the Full Throttle one, all I need to do now is find enough money...........

    Ducati Scrambler 2015...

Personally I quite like the look of it, don't know if it'll be available in the UK though and if it is I probably couldn't afford it anyway! If I did have the money though I might be tempted, I've reached an age where I don't ride that hard any more and gas stations are rarely more than 20 miles...

    Seized threads again!

Cheers for that, never heard of that trick before :) Normally I use diesel fuel but that works best if you can actually soak the offending item in it for 24 hours so it's not so effective just brushing it on plus of course you really don't want to risk getting diesel on a tyre especially with...

    Seized threads again!

I need to remove the seat and rear mudguard on my Cali EV but the 2 bolts that hold the rear seat down are both seized in! I'm talking about what appears to be 2 countersunk allen screws accessed from inside the rear mudguard, neither of them want to move despite having given them a good soaking...
