Update: Just a shout out to GTM for resurrecting my bike. I had given up. Turns out it was the starter switch assembly. I had taken that apart twice and checked continuity at the ECU, but clearly I’m a rank amateur when it come to this stuff. And then there’s the secret sauce Todd put on...

Possibly Scott. But that's going to be the sad end to her life on the road. I've got to get back to life. When the tilt sensor arrives I'll dig back into it, put it back to stock and see. I just had a good conversation with the nearest shop with PADS (7 hours away). New MG parts are...

I did use the diag. Have for years without issue. I re-flashed from the gtm. Again, without issue. Both find and clear codes. Next step will be to pull off the AT fueling and sensors. Reflash it to stock. See if that works. If not, I’ve got to move on. My available Ducati/Beemer guy...

No voltage at the relay socket. That‘s supposed to come from the ECU pin out 69 which trips the relay. Relay tested good. Starting to suspect the ECU, but I’m not going to deal with that. Pretty sure I’d need to find a dealer with a PADS and probably Todd if I wanted to restore the...

thanks rick. happy for you, but was hoping it was something that would relate to my issue. starter solenoid all good in my case. enjoy your summer riding season!

Thanks for staying with me on this Scott. Appreciate your expertise. To answer your question: If I power the ignition up and bypass the start switch by sending 12volts to the solenoid, the bike will turn over (but not start). Starter, solenoid, relay, all good. I’ve opened the start...

Thanks for asking that. Despite my YouTube diploma in electronics, I've always had trouble with the 5v ECU concepts necessary to work on most anything these days. Would rather get back to the seals on my leaky '72 Eldorado. Based on my read of the wiring diagram, I think it would be...

California 1400 touring 2016 model not starting

Hi Rick - Just wondering how you resolved this. I’m stuck with a somewhat similar situation and I’m running out of ideas.

Understand. I’m going to try to get another set of eyes on it to recheck my work. I’ve ordered a new tilt sensor. (Couldn’t figure out how to bypass it without a resistor.) I believe that may the only other circuit that could cause something like this. I’m starting to think it’s...

Thanks to all for chiming in with your thoughts. I completely shunted out the disabled alarm with the factory provided plug shown above. (Can't believe still had it.) No start. Display still reads normal. Running out of ideas.

Thanks very much for the quick response. Really appreciate it. No "URGENT SERVICE" or "SERVICE" notices on the speedo -- except when I created one by pulling the relay. I cleared that. All normal on the display. I replaced the clutch switch a year ago. I was operating under the...

I'm humbly returning after a long absence, hoping someone out there can help me figure out a no-start 2014 cali touring with 22k and Todd's awesome ECU flash/PCV/AT fueling. I'm hundreds of miles away from any authorized service (w/PADS). Basically on my own. Take pity. Here's the deal...

that's great to hear. stay safe and well over there.

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Swapping out the Crank Position Sensor - 6389915 might be worth a try. That fixed my warm motor high and rough idle issues. easy job and cheap (35 bucks). good luck.

    California 1400 hanging throttle

pcv/at back on. temp in the mid 90's. idle and acceleration good. I only wished I hadn't listened to the mechanics who firmly asserted that the cps "either works or it don't." i'd put that sensor high on the troubleshooting list -- if only because it's so cheap and easy to swap out.

    California 1400 hanging throttle

...don't jinx me. i can't be certain, but it was high 80's. plenty hot. i ran the bike hard in second gear running it at 5 grand for extended periods. then in town sitting around at lights. the oil cooler thermostat started the fan. previously, that temp would have rendered the bike...

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Sorry for the rant. Felt the info could help someone. Btw: I’m only done with Piaggio. I’ll hang on to the loopframe. As long as Charlie Mulledore and Greg Bender are keeping it alive, I’m in. ... but maybe the v85? Until then...

    California 1400 hanging throttle

After nearly two months sitting in a dealer shop without a solid diagnosis, the factory trained mechanic left for a Kawasaki dealership; the regional Piaggio rep shrugged his shoulder. I limped the bike home. Today, I hooked the laptop up, cleared the codes and swapped out the crank position...

    California 1400 hanging throttle

Godspeed my friend. Given my experience and the others on this forum who have been grappling with these throttle issues, even with a dealer you're not guaranteed much. My 2014 has been sitting in a dealer shop for a month without even a diagnosis. It's pretty clear to me that Piaggio is not...
