    V7 Shifting/Neutral Problems

Sadly...I think it just comes down to the fact that MGs are poorly designed/engineered with poor QC. I recently sold my 2009 V7 Classic that I bought used in 2013. In addition to the clutch cable routed to contact the cylinder head which led to the issues you identified, even with the fix...

    Removing Fuel Tank on V7

Friends...Glad I found this thread...I think I read here that the fiberglass tanks can warp. I noticed after doing some work on my bike that when I put the fuel tank back on my V7, it was cocked to the left about 1cm off center and the bolt at the rear wouldn't line up...the bold was looking...

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

It seems to have worked. I have not had it out on a day as hot as the one that I had the issues with it, though, but it seems to have resolved it. Nonetheless, I have been underwhelmed by the quality of this bike [hard starting, this stupid clutch issue, a gas tank that won't go back on...

    Tank alignment

Hey...same issue...put the tank back on my '09 V7 and it does not quite seem to line up. Also, the bolt at the rear of the tank was about 5mm off from the hole. I've checked to see if there was anything blocking it sliding back on. I've taken tanks off other bikes and have not had such a hard...

    V7 Shifting/Neutral Problems

Same issue...make sure that clutch cable is not hitting the engine head fins. I zip tied mine to a bracket.

    tank removal

FYI...the use of a little screwdriver really helped. Had the tank off in no time. I understand this coupling much better. I appreciate all of your suggestions and for talking me off the ledge. Ride safe my friends.

    tank removal

thanks...I truly appreciate the suggestions as well as you patience with my snarkiness...I was a tad frustrated last night. I plan to practice using your suggestions since taking the tank off is necessary from time to time and I don't want to become avoidant regarding maintenance just because I...

    tank removal

I appreciate that but considering [at least according to this thread] I need WD40, dry lubricant, olive oil, a jeweler's screwdriver, small allen wrench, and have to push the line and fitting in 4 different directions simultaneously that give no audible or tactile indication it has been...

    Barend mirrors

I tried some Emgo's [shite] and Bikemaster...just used an M4 bolt that fit the inserts. Figured I would upgrade if i liked the bar end look/functionality.

    tank removal

Can someone convince me not to simply get rid of that stupid coupling that will likely break the red elbow at some point and replace it with some high pressure fuel hose and 2 clamps? That coupling is a total assache.

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

Thanks! I found the thread on the clutch.... I ended up zip tying it to a bracket. I guess I will find out on the next hot day if it helped.

    2013 V7 clutch cable failure

Same issue on my 09 V7 Classic...zip tied the cable to a bracket up out of the way and will see if that does the trick. Srsly, MG engineers?

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

So after wrestling with the quick release connector on the gas tank, I was able to remove the gas tank to inspect the clutch cable. As I have heard on this forum and other places, if the clutch cable is too close to the right cylinder it can heat up and cause issues. My question then is how...

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

I seem to be hearing that from a few others....guess it's time to take the tank off and see what's up under there...I really appreciate that time you took to respond...promise to let you know what i find out.

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

Thanks. I played around with the adjustment. Not sure if that is making a difference. The thing is it acts up like this when the bike has been running for a while or a hot day. Yesterday when this happened we were stopped for about 10 min because of road work in the middle of a group ride and...

Thanks for the response....I'm a bit of a noob....to measure free play from what to what do I measure...distance cable goes when the lever is pulled?

    Clutch issues '09 V7 Classic

Friends...new to this forum and MG. Been riding a BMW R bike for the past 10 years...I guess I have a thing for air-cooled , twin shafties...my gf says the V7 sounds like a sex-up kitten when it idles... anyway, I bought the bike used last October from a dealer. 'idiosyncratic' seems a good...
