    Stelvio Swingarm Service

My swing arm bearings had some nice clean grease, but the pivot was nearly hand tight.

    Stelvio Swingarm Service

I couldn't "knock" my driveshaft off the rear of the tranny's splines. I spritzed penetrant up through the splines, used a copper drift with a dead-blow hammer as well as a ballpein hammer, still no joy. I even put a big pry bar against the pretty machined bit where the boot stretches over the...

    Stelvio Swingarm Service

I think I'll put another couple bolts in the left side and sandwich it all together that way, so that when I remove the right side footrest carrier, it'll all hold together...

    Stelvio Swingarm Service

Holy Cow, I was trying to take the second "pork chop" foot rest plate off the right side of my '07 Breva, when the bike shifted back slightly! I realised only then that the center stand is secured to the frame by those same 4 bolts at the bottom of the footrest carrier plates. Maybe the center...

Changing large seal in final drive

Yeah, I'd better get busy on it before the summer's over! Thanks for the info. I sure hope it's not the inner one. I don't own a new one of those...

Changing large seal in final drive

I have a new seal for the final drive box, but was confused as to how to go about getting the old one out. I don't even remember what it looks like just now. Anyone out there have experience on changing one of these big seals? I had a lot of fun changing the seal at the rear of the...

    LM II Charging system problem

Oh yes, I was aware of the different dimensions of the BMW and Guzzi parts. The stator I used was from the old 850T.

    LM II Charging system problem

Hallelujah! It was the stator alright. Now, maybe for the fun of it, I'll meter some of those yellow wires and see what they read in AC. I used the new plastic (non-adjustable) regulator, but it charged right over 15 volts, so I put the tin one with the trim pot back in, and turned it back...

    LM II Charging system problem

Do you suppose the battery is "past it's best" and doesn't "receive" a charge? No, wait, there's no AC on one of those yellow wires, so it must be the stator that's hooped... I'm going to ride it over to the BMW specialist, I think....

    LM II Charging system problem

I've been into the idiot light panel and pulled the charge light out, and the bulb holder fell apart. So that's what I though my problem was, why sometimes there was voltage at the purple wire for the brush and sometimes no voltage. So I got everything plugged in again, and got nearly 12 volts...

    LM II Charging system problem

Okay, I have the .62 ohms between all the stator windings. With the brushes shimmed away, there's .3 ohms between the slip rings, and with just the one brush pulled away there's around 6.9 ohms to the ground tab of the other brush. I have 10.3 VDC at the field terminal on the end of the purple...

    LM II Charging system problem

I can't wait to test my stator, I was wondering it should read between windings. Thanks everybody! Gotta do chores firstly...

    LM II Charging system problem

My '80 LM II won't charge. Where should I look next, after checking my rotor, changing the diode plate, changing the voltage regulator with new items? I have continuity in the 3 yellow wires from the stator, I have a good charging light filiment, good brushes and springs, but I can't find any...

    Rizoma Parts?

I bought one of their aluminum h-bars cos they were 22mm and fit on the yoke properly. When I found my old (cheap) bar end mirror wouldn't fit into the small bore of the bar, I ordered a Rizoma mirror. When it arrived, I was shocked to see how small it was. Good thing it's convex glass. I'm...

    Grabby Clutch on 1000SP

I found my clutch hub notched and the inside splines of the clutch plates pretty knackered. The friction material would have lasted another 50k miles, I bet. I replaced with a deep splined hub and Stucchi plates to match. Nice feathering now. This on my '80 Lemans. It was very toggle switch...

    Headlight relay thread?

I'm sorry if I don't know where to look for this info, but could anyone reveal to me the headlight relay thread or file? Ciao!

    Clutch assembly has me buffaloed

Pete, I've been using the clutch hub to keep the plates indexed nicely. But you're saying that using a bolt that threads into the end of the crank and passes through the clutch hub along with a large washer and a nut will pull it all together? I wonder if it's the same thread as the big one...

    Clutch assembly has me buffaloed

Do any of you have experience assembling a clutch without special Guzzi tools? I'll bet there's a special tool that will screw into the threads inside the rear of the crank and pull it all together. I don't know how else to squash the pressure plate so that the intermediate plate's splines...

    Changing rear main crank seal

Can the seal for the crankshaft be changed without removing the large round plate in the back of the crankcase? I have new hardware to bolt my flywheel back on. This time there'll be locking plates even! I'll scribe some marks on each part of the clutch so they'll go back on the same way they...

    Shimming the selector drum...

Thanks again John! Is there an index of resources or "stickys" in the site that I haven't discovered? The trans never jumps out of 3rd gear, rather, it's the tough shift that has to be done carefully. So, I had the back cover off and considered doing all of what Pete Roper suggested but after...
