I did basely the same thing; paid for a 2017 V9 Roamer over the internet and hopped on a bus from Portland to Eugene Oregon met the dealer and road off... back to Portland. I have a V7 and love it, so the Roamer was like a beefed V7 to me, fun ride. Only problem I had was reading the...
Does the V7 have a "slipper clutch" or do they make one for it? That could take some of the hand tension off, maybe.
I have Pazzos levers on my V7 for what that worth, like the look...
Are clutch and shifting problem common on the newer V7s?
I have 112 miles on my V7 and went for a ride on a hot Summer day (99f) and stopped for 5 minutes, when I took back off, I couldn't get it into 2nd. I have adjusted the clutch ( on the bar) when it cooled off; no help.

Wow it looks great on your bike! It is a nice looking rack, but it just doesn't fit on a 2015 V7 Special with out mods.
I ended up sending it back. Before I sent it back I got a hold of AF1 and talk to them with some photos of the problems. AF1 agreed after looking in to it, and figured out...
Has anyone ran into a problem or can help installing a small rack (2S000256) on a V7 Special? Such as the rack can't be installed with the hand rails on and the molded fender really only has room for one bolt on each side and not two... (wish I would have taken photos).
