That's good to know. Motorcyclist magazine speculated that the new water cooled BMW R series GS will come with a 170 rear tire, so maybe the tire manufactures will extend their Adventuring Touring tire lines to include a 170.
Wow, that's a great idea. I never really like those useless slots things on the sides and not being shy with the hacksaw I just hacked them off, but I can understand how some might not want to go that far.
More pictures are always better. :D I'd really be interested to see what you have done...
Henk,
Here are a few more pictures
The hardest part of narrowing the bags is dealing with the lower front mounts, near the passenger pegs. I didn't want to do anything drastic to the front support arms in case I didn't like the results and wanted to go back to the original mounts. That's why...
Ray,
Sorry for the delay, yesterday was a busy day. Here's what I did to control the transfer pump. I bought a universal 12v timer board and mounted it under the seat.
Here's a view of the timer board (left) and the pump (right). And here is the switch and pump 'on' indicator light. The...
I had to look that one up. :D I got them from KLR650.com. There are actually two parts, the bottom is a Mirror Vibration Isolator 033-9996 and the top is the Mirror 033-1117. The mirrors have a ball joint at the bottom so the mirror can be push out of the way for off road riding.
I mentioned I had moved my bags in almost 1 1/2" on each side in the "aux tank" topic and someone wanted to see pictures, since its getting off topic for the aux tank discussion I thought I'd start a new topic, so here it is.
I removed the passenger grab rail then removed the silver plastic...
Sorry, I'm watching my granddaughter today, so picture will have to wait until tomorrow. Here's a teaser, you can see the top of the bags in this picture I took on Wednesay while waiting for the ferry.
Are you concerned about running the pump dry when the aux tank goes empty and damaging the pump?
Since I've got the aux tank on the passengers seat and mounted a GuzziTech pipe I moved my bag mounts in almost an inch and a half on each side and put a PVC storage tube on the right side, I don't...
Charcoal what? I think mine fell off. :D
I can understand that, the fuel gage doesn't react very quickly, so it would be easy to over fill the tank. I put a timer board on and run the transfer pump for three minutes (2 gallons) when the top two segments of the fuel gauge goes out, then do...
Sounds like the problem was on the pressure side of the fuel system which makes me wonder why you want to tap into the high pressure side of the fuel injection system and add another high pressure pump, more fuel line and couplings.
If you plumb to the top of the tank with the transfer hose...
The tapered threads should seal in the softer plastic tank without any problem, but a little teflon tape can't hurt. I put the fitting on the top of the tank so a pressure seal isn't really an issue. I did put a couple rounds of teflon on it when I was trying to pressurize the tank, but it was...
I must have done the same thing. I also reloaded the base fuel map and its accepting AT trims again. I'll be staying far away from the "table" buttons for sure. ;)
Ron
That makes sense, it would be distracting if a segment of the fuel gauge kept flashing on and off for 15 or 20 miles until it goes out for good. I just wanted to point out that the fuel gauge doesn't respond in 'real' time while adding fuel with the key on.
I thought you guys might be interested in something I've discovered about my Stelvio's fuel gauge since I installed my aux tank. After filling up both tanks I run off of the main tank until the top two segments on the fuel gauge go out, then I run the transfer pump for about three minutes to...
