Petrol / gas / throttle response

I'm with Dinsdale on the idling issue. The worst thing about where I live is that I am very close (1/2 mile) from a Motorway (?freeway) which I frequently use. All the traffic on the motorway does 70mph, except of course for the BMWs who regard speed limits as things that apply to other people...

Petrol / gas / throttle response

Thanks GM, I'll do the handlebar test before I ride the 45 miles to work tomorrow. I wound up the pull cable till the revs increased, then slackened it off till idle, and retested it a few times to make sure it returned to idle. We have what is called an MOT test (roadworthiness test) here in...

Petrol / gas / throttle response

Thanks GM, you are right. I've been out to the garage in the cold and found the cables are adjustable inside the rubber sleeves at the handlebar end. No more slop! :)

Petrol / gas / throttle response

Thanks Todd, the reason I thought it must be mapped differently for different parts of the world is that Sean Kelly said he has 91 octane gas. The last time I heard of that was what they called 'pool petrol' in WW2. We don't have anything that low, ours is all 97. I cannot imagine it running on...

Petrol / gas / throttle response

Yes, I had thought there was a bit of unnecessary slack in the throttle cable, I will get at it and I presume there is a method of adjusting the throttle body end of the cable. I have been fiddling and building two wheelers since 1966 so I fully expect that to improve the response. I might think...

Petrol / gas / throttle response

I went to a Guzzi dealer (in England) to try a new V7 and a new V9. I took the V7 out first, it coughed and spluttered and basically didn't go so I took it back and got on the V9. That was fine so I ordered one. I should have asked what was wrong with the V7 but for me the V9 had a more...

    New V9 Roamer England

Thanks grame. I had a look but I think it is bigger than I want. What part of london are you?

grame - what are the item numbers?

    New V9 Roamer England

I believe they do, when I went they had a H-D, several BMWs and classic Hondas. I would rather go somewhere where they know what 25 thou and 15 thou are for, gents with grey hair and greasy fingernails than a place where they only know how to plug a computer in. Anyway I will find out of course...

    New V9 Roamer England

I love that, only having a few parts left over when done. The mark of a professional. It's curious how the things you fix and have a few parts left over always seem to work properly. In that case why did they fit those parts in the first place? Although the V9 is a bit bigger and heavier than...

    New V9 Roamer England

Thanks nel, that's reassuring. I must say I am extremely pleased with the finish on the Guzzi. Lots of machined billet aluminium, nice chrome, excellent paintwork, and things such as the mudguards are made of metal where other makes use plastic. I have posted elsewhere why I will never have a...

    New V9 Roamer England

There was a test case in the courts in the UK some years ago and the law now says that so long as the manufacturers parts are used, or even equivalent manufacturers parts are used and the servicing is done at the manufacturer's specified time / mileage intervals then the manufacturer has to...

    New V9 Roamer England

Thanks GT for the advice. I do love it and I won't be getting another brand, I have had just about all of them and I could list reasons why I won't have about ten makes but I won't bore you with them. I checked the tyre pressures against four other gauges and the other four all agree with each...

    New V9 Roamer England

There's nothing wrong with the bike dave, but having read this thread, if there is potential trouble ahead with the starting system I would fix it before it becomes a problem. By the way, yesterday, one week after I bought it, I checked the tyre pressures and they were both well down. The rear...

    New V9 Roamer England

I live in England, have just bought a new Roamer V9 in the January sales. I have tried the 'just touch the start button and it will continue to turn till the engine starts' but it does not do that, it only turns the engine while the button is held down. I have tried to pursue this rewiring. I am...

    Fitting heated grips tip

Thanks Mike. My dad wasn't actually a code breaker, he was up near the front lines in North Africa and in the D day landings and so on, intercepting the signals and then forwarding them on to London using our Type X encryption machine. I believe that the Germans never broke our Type X...

    Fitting heated grips tip

I didn't actually get a price for the Guzzi heated grips. The salesman could have tried to sell me some extras, but he didn't. Except that he did go on a bit about GAP insurance but I regard that with the same disdain as I did with PPI (payment protection insurance) when that was being mis-sold...

    Fitting heated grips tip

Thanks Vagrant. I did look at all possibilities of mounting the bracket. I wonder if I had been given a bracket intended for a different controller. Anyway I managed to fix the controller to the bracket with two screws so I am confident it will remain fixed.

    Fitting heated grips tip

I used Oxford heated grips. They work fine but the design leaves a lot to be desired. Oxford do not provide any system for mounting the controller on to the handlebar. You would have thought that they would at least provide a clamp to go round the handlebar, but no. they provide a right-angled...

V9 Registry & Picture thread -- ADD YOUR BIKE

I have just bought a 2018 (I think!) new white V9 Roamer - well it is new in the sense it had 4 miles on the clock when I wheeled it out of the showroom. I got it as a pre-reg deal, at £6000 which I think is about £2700 off list. This is the time of year to buy,I thought - don't wait for the...
