You are doing it right. It was a pain for me to get the allen wrench in there - then only to be able to turn the bolt just a little bit. Be patient, you won't need to remove the headlight.

Todd is spot-on. My point is that when everything is lined up properly (baffle out / open airbox / race ECU) the bike runs beautifully. It produces monster power and plays wonderful music (sounds like a 60's muscle car!). If one of those things is changed - it's a no-go. No doubt that it is...
Experiment is complete. Despite what others may have assumed, I have proven that my 2009 Griso performs far better without the baffle in. It is most likely due to my setup:
-Open airbox
-K&N filter
-Mistral carbon exhaust
-Todd's race ECU
With the baffles in, the bike just can't seem to...
I'd recommend the ECU reflash. You may find that everything runs perfectly once this is done. My bike runs near flawlessly since I did the reflash (I also installed an open airbox and Mistral pipe). Sounds like a beast, too.

I use very fine steel wool, and it doesn't dull the headers at all, but is effective at removing any spots. Headers looks factory-fresh after 1.5 years...

Replace the crappy FF front pads with some aftermarket HH pads. Makes ALL the difference in the world. The braking will be completely tansformed. Also, get an ExtendaFender to keep all the dirt and rocks from kicking up onto your engine and exhaust manifold.
"Knock on wood", but in the over 12 years I've used battery tenders, I've never had a battery crap out. Which type do you use? There are different models, with corresponding features...

A good Battery Tender will not overcharge the battery and will operate on "Float" once the battery is at its ideal voltage. Other brands may not have this same feature.
Mine stays hooked up all year when not riding.

I have experimented with the baffles in and out of my Mistral exhaust and the only change is that the popping is significantly more muffled with the baffle in place - but it's still popping at anything less than on the throttle at 5k rpm and beyond. I noticed that at full throttle in top gear...
I, too, removed the carbon canister. Never noticed a change whatsoever in performance, but managed to unclutter the bike from unnecessary items. Dropped a little bit of weight, too.

^ That there IS funny!
Pete - I've never met you before, but you are definitely practical, honest, and rational. Fortunately, you have enough of a sense of humor and sarcasm to muddle through it all. I appreciate what you, 'Clam, and countless others contribute to the group and hope that the...
Re: Griso Charcoal can removal
I have a 2009 8V Griso and would like to do this if it makes an improvement in how well my Griso runs. Quick questions:
- What size bolt do I need to replace the rear mount bolt for the canister (since I will need a shorter one)?
- What size bolts do I need to...
