I did a little research after reading Charlie's article and found that the SKF 3205A bearing is still available for as low as $50 each while the 3205 E/C3 is much more expensive, at well over $100 each. Before I dig into the specs do you remember why the 3205 E/C3 would be preferred over the...
Thanks, I'll run that one down.
In the meantime I had done a Google search and found this...

So it looks like a tear down is in order to also replace the input bearing as well as to clean the swarf out of the case. I should be getting the Ducati forks back soon so...
Wondering if anyone knows which ball bearing in a 1997 Sport transmission uses a plastic cage...
After replacing the leaking trans output shaft seal only to find the new one immediately started leaking i pulled the swing arm, etc. all apart again. The seal was showing physical damage from the...
Ok, finally got it all back together, did a test drive and the harmonic vibration is gone. Case closed.
For the record, the zerks are all pointing in the same direction, as shown in the FSM, as this ensures correct phasing of the u-joint yokes.
Thanks for the help!
Of course, the FSM says nothing about that, but with it slid up against the snap ring the drive shaft swings far enough that the yoke attached to the drive shaft contacts either the rear drive input yoke or the u-joint shroud. In other words, it does not contact the rear drive input shaft when...
Ok, got it apart using a 3/8" breaker bar, threads all cleaned up and test fit shows it gets real snug @39 NM (4 KGM) so might try a little tighter but am approaching the max.
Assuming it is supposed to be clamped down, is it supposed to be spaced a little bit away from the snap ring on the...
Greetings!
I am chasing a harmonic (i.e. periodic) vibration felt through the seat and foot pegs that is drive line related - feels just like a car/truck that has a bad u-joint that is allowing the drive shaft to oscillate. It only occurs from 70 mph and up.
After tear down I discovered that...
Howdy,
I have the forks apart on this bike to replace the fork seals and noted that the upper bushing is showing bronze through the black coating that is used to indicate wear-based replacement according to the shop manual.
I've looked around on the 'net but have not been able to find this...
