    California 1400 Fluid Changes

Hi, I'm planning to get this removed so that the gearbox oil change becomes easier. Is there a downside doing so? You'll be exposing some of the parts to the elements.

    Gear oil change 85W-140

I took a class at Moto Guild for the valve adjustment and I also had time to change the gear oil. After draining the oil I/we realized that they don't have 85W-90 in stock and ended up using 85W-140. (Belray Hypoid Gear Oil 85W-140 API GL-5) After reading a few posts, I don't know if I should...

Cal 1400 Touring - pannier support hardware question

Thanks...yes..I think that is correct. Just the brace (black) was almost 1/2 the price... I did not know what to do and ordered the guard rails instead.

Cal 1400 Touring - pannier support hardware question

Thanks William! this helps. So its only the chrome guard rail which runs on the back to keep the support bars in-place. The parts manual also shows a curved brace, so I did not know if there were two or just one brace on the back side.

    Engine Guards aka Crash Bars

I was practicing Figure 8s on my Touring... I dropped it once and the engine guards did not help. The head cover on the left got scratched...rest of the bike was just fine.

Should I Go To The Dealer?

I'm at 6500mi and I replaced the oil, filter and air filter myself. I wanted to give it a shot not that I had too much confidence to do it but it felt doable. I'm still thinking about the valve clearance to try it or go to the dealer. Oil from O’Reilly Auto and I got the oil filter wrench...

Cal 1400 Touring - pannier support hardware question

Can anyone post a picture of the support hardware from the back? I wanted to know if part # 8 shown in this picture is installed from the factory for the Touring models or not. There is also a Chrome SideBag Guard rail which runs around the bags and the back... just want to confirm if...

Sorry, can't comment as I did not have that much load or ride in bad weather.

    Kuryakyn Momentum Outrider Saddlebags

I took them off recently and I don't have a picture. It should fit much better on the Eldo as the passenger seat is much narrower. I used all the 6 straps and the Velcro overlap. The Velcro in my case did not have a lot of overlap as the seat is very wide. The rear shock did touch the bags...

Spark Plug gaps, oil & filter change, valve adjust, air filter comments

while doing the oil change, I pressed on the rubber cover of the inspection port and I thought I'll look at it after the oil change to put it back. I totally forgot about it and then when I started the engine, the cover got sucked in! I don't know what damage its going to do or how its going...

Spark Plug gaps, oil & filter change, valve adjust, air filter comments

I did an oil change today on my 2017 Cal Touring. This is the 6k mil service and I'm thinking of doing the gearbox oil change myself and see if I can go to the dealer for the valve inspection/adjustment. From previous threads, the oil filter wrench can be got from various places. I actually...

    Kuryakyn Momentum Outrider Saddlebags

I ended up buying and using them on a 950mi trip... I'm happy with them. It's definitely smaller than the original panniers.
