Oil Pressure Switch - just how tight!?

Thanks Guys, I'll put the breaker bar away! Was going to do it tonight, but was struck with indecision and spent the evening procrastinating instead.

Oil Pressure Switch - just how tight!?

I'm hoping to cure a long standing oil leak that I've been trying to ignore for some time. So, I have my new oil pressure switch along with it's hex adapter. I'm not sure how tight to do it all up though. Is it a sort of just nip it up, or really tight? Is there a danger of over tightening...

    Front axle stuck

Yes, will remember to use the heat/freezer - and to put the space in..! The axle was pretty dry and rusty - but thankfully no mechanical damage as such. I was afraid the bearing had worn a groove into the axle or something. It cleaned up pretty well with some emery - I might see if the local...

    Front axle stuck

Yay - axle out! I used a brass headed hammer borrowed from work and it only took a few sharp whacks to get it moving. So - lesson learnt and hopefully others might benefit from this too. The old bearings came out nicely. One bearing looked in good shape, but the other was pretty messed up -...

    Front axle stuck

Yes - I have some air dusters - I might even have some freezer spray, so that's a good idea! I'll grab a length of the extruded aluminium too - will provide a sharper hit - so long as I don't damage the axle! I'll start gently!

    Front axle stuck

Thanks - thats all good to know - I was worried about damaging the forks with all the desperate hitting. What are the pins you mention where you say "just make sure the pins are completely removed"? It would be great if I'd just forgotten something! We went and hit it some more - the axle is...

    Front axle stuck

Oh man. I've had (what I presume to be anyway) a front wheel bearing fail. I crawled home at 30mph max for the 2miles. It was making a dreadful noise. So, not to worry - got home and got a new set on order and went out to start on removing the old bearings to laugh at them. But - I can't...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

Well, the new MC arrived this morning, so I didn't waste ay time in getting the old one off (the mounting bolts came off no problem in the end) and the new one on. Brake worked like a champ squeezey thing in no time :) The old one was full of dried, rusty, muddy 'stuff', so not surprised it...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

This is an interesting thought - it's getting dark out now, but I'll go and check in the morning. I'm pretty sure it's clear, but then I haven't actually been looking for anything right at the bottom of the MC, so it's worth checking. Now, assuming I do go ahead and take the MC off - is it...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

Yeah, lots of travel in pedal - much more than I'm used to seeing in fact! The rod in the MC moves pretty much directly when the pedal moves.

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

So, I got a syringe and a bit of pipe on the bleed nipple and tried to pull fluid though, tried to bleed., but no improvement. Interestingly, I think, if I pushed fluid into the calliper and closed the bleep nipple under pressure, I got some brake. But when I try to bleed again, any pressure...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

Yes - the syringe idea is good - I'll wedge one on the end of some clear tubing tomorrow and see what I can suck out. The pedal is soft - no resistance - and no fluid makes is out of the bleed nipple. No leaks and the reservoir level is not dropping. I'll try the rubber mallet tomorrow too...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

Awesome, thanks John. Not worth me beggaring about for that difference. I'd only muck it up and have to buy a whole new unit anyway :)

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

Hey Scott, Yes, indeed, 9yrs is fine in my book too, I've just never had one fail before (and lets just say that is one of my younger bikes I've had in the last 30yrs!). I was unsure of the symptoms, so here I am! Yes, tried to bleed (it's all above, so I won't repeat myself too much :) )...

Rear brake master cylinder gone bad?

After a few months off the road (...and it was just a burst fuel filter!), I was giving the Stelvio some love ready to get back on the road, so i fitted some new brake pads all 'round. All seemed fine. With the rear, there wasn't much pressure, but I thought a spin around the block and a bit...

    Bank Angle Sensor 2012 NTX

Well, there certainly is one on my '08 uk bike. As I found out last week.

    One big 'click', no start.

Yes - maybe see if you can bump start it (bypassing the starter solenoid) and see if she runs ok. Bump starting a 600lb bike might be easier said than done

    Mountng an NXT

Not really thought about it before - but I'm a swing a leg over the panniers for sure. Sliding right leg down the set might be asking for trouble if bike sways over instead of leg sliding...

    Heated grips no workey

Just an update - the left hand grip has worked, once and the Rhs does most of the time but didn't this evening (not that I needed it at 14degC!) So, something intermittent. Will check continuity properly when I get the bodywork off (how??!!) if I can stop riding the thing for a little while...

    Rear light - LEDs out

Thanks for the eBay link, I'll wait and see if I can crack mine open or not before buying a new one, but good to know they're out there for not as bad as I thought sort of money. Still a lot to fix a couple of LEDs! Might try and get the cluster apart this weekend, but might just be riding as...
