I bought my 1200 Sport in April 2011, and took it to Rosefarm Classics in Woodstock, IL for the 1st service. Jim Barron is a top-level Guzzi mechanic. While doing the necessary services, he took time to tell me what to look for and to be aware of when I do them on my own in the future. I've seen...
Bisbonian... Since Parts Unlimited sells the Ballistics brand LiFe batteries, I found this on the Ballistics website about cold weather starting: http://www.ballisticparts.com/downloads ... video2.php .
My fix was to change from a lead/acid battery to Lithium Iron Polymer but that lead to its own problems as when the weather is cold this battery does not like to function well.
I was thinking of going to the lithium battery, as it saves 11 pounds over the lead type. It's supposed to have more...
What I like about it is it's uniqueness, and sounds unlike anything else out there. What I don't like is the seat. To me, it's very uncomfortable. Not the seating position but the shape/density of the seat. It easily gets mid-upper 40's on a gallon of gas, and I usually find a gas station about...
I'd say take a trip to Rider's Hill, per post above. The Guzzi manual says the best break-in for the drive train is a curvy road with some elevation changes. Dahlonega is just a few miles south of Deal's Gap/Tail of the Dragon. It'd be a great place to break it in.
Don't know how you feel about the seat, but it may be the most uncomfortable seat I've ever had. Thinking about sending it to Sargent to get it re-shaped. Other than that, great bike and definitely unique.
I've got the '08 1200 Sport. The forks have different functions. One has the compression damping in it and the other the rebound. So, if yours is the same you can alter the damping characteristics of one function without affecting the other with different weight oils. My forks actually feel too...
I'm pretty much interested in an all smoke. I've been thinking of removing the whole headlight/windscreen assembly and going with a dual setup, ala Speed Triple, but the Guzzista may think I committed sacrilege. Looking at the pictures, what you offer just replaces the white center section...
The owner's manual says the perfect place to break it in is a curvy road with elevation changes, thus forcing the rider to vary throttle input frequently. Unfortunately, there's nothing like that where I live, so I just pretended I was riding the Tail of the Dragon as I meandered around the farm...
Thanks for the info. I thought the Aprilia ones may fit, as the 1200 Sport was designed by Aprilia when they owned the Guzzi brand. I guess I'll give it a try... it's only money.
Does anyone know if there's an aftermarket footpeg that fits the '08 1200 Sport? The stock ones offer virtually no grip, especially when wet. Thickness at the mounting bracket as well as pin diameter vary on bikes, and not sure which one may match up with the 1200 Sport. I'm only concerned about...
