    Oversize pistons?

During a Gilardoni drought I ended up sending a pair of 850T barrels to be bored to the diameter that left the minimum safe spigot thickness and got JE to make the pistons for that diameter. They worked just fine and JE was easy to deal with & gave me just what I wanted.

    850 clutch input shaft nut

You can. I have done that replacement on a variety of 5-speeds, including an Eldo just this afternoon. The P/N listing on the MG Cycle web site notes the alternative use, it's also mentioned in Guzziology. As for locking, I still bend the tabs against the hex flats on the nut on installation...

    850 clutch input shaft nut

You can, BTW, replace it with the same nut that's on the output shaft and use a conventional hex socket (p/n 1421 9310). Also, the peg nut that secures the crank sprocket can be replaced with a hex nut that goes in the same place on a Daytona (p/n 9260 2525 & 9510 0837 washer). Don't like peg...

    drive shaft noise

In my experience, u-joint induced noise, often felt as sort of a "thrumming" in the RH footpeg, is often caused by the UJ's spigot end that fits into the carrier bearing spinning in the bearing. The UJ spigot end is supposed to be a light press fit in the carrier bearing I.D., but because it is...

    Charge

Heh John, It occurred to me that with the M-Unit, if you have the alarm armed it would probably have a bit of a draw, but I never use it. Oddly, the Guzzi Loop that I have with the V1 will retain its settings for brake light, switch type, etc. if you disconnect the battery, but the V2 retains...

    Charge

Hi John, I'm curious about the M-Unit parasitic load you're experiencing. I have M-Units on my Loop (V1) and Ducati 750 GT (V2) and, as it should be, there is no parasitic load on the system when power is off on either bike. That said, I did have that problem on the Ducati. but tracked it...

Any reason this will not work on a loop?

For a 2-points set-up, you don't have the issue of retaining the distributor cap which you can't with most electronic ignitions on single-point installations. I'd use a Dyna III or Sachse now that those are available again. http://www.elektronik-sachse.de/shopsys ... osch-.html

Any reason this will not work on a loop?

It's been a while now, but when I was mucking around with my Loop projects ignition, I inquired with these guys about whether they would consider a custom-built unit using the stock distributor assembly: http://www.123ignition.nl/products.php?id=50&lang=eng They weren't, sadly. Worked great on...

Any reason this will not work on a loop?

The Velleman kit from the US has an "assembled" option for an extra $20. Worth it unless you're handy with a soldering iron.

    38mm Dellortos

For the installation on the Loop, the stock splitter did not. I got a different splitter from Flanders that allowed a bit more travel. The Super Practic throttle had just enough travel available to pull the 36mm slides to full open. I like 36's on small valve engines, installed a few now...

    38mm Dellortos

Small valve Just a little blending at the beginning of the intake port to match the manifold diameter. Not very scientific, but has to be better than a lip at the manifold - head joint. Other than that, didn't touch the ports on either bike. Manifolds were the Delrin ones from MG Cycle on the...

    38mm Dellortos

Here's what I ended up with in a 1000SP engine installed in a loop frame with 36 dellortos and a Megacycle X10 cam. Should be a reasonable starting point: PJ - 57 Slide - 60/3 NJ - 265AB Needle - K5 (bottom / richest notch) MJ - 135 This bike lives mostly at sea level & that's where the dyno...

Any reason this will not work on a loop?

I have installed an electronic ignition amplifier on my loop like so: http://store.qkits.com/moreinfo.cfm/K2543 No need for a condenser any more. Since the points are being used for a timing signal only (just a few millivolts) and no longer for a route to charge the coil, the points last...

    Recent Update Nov2012: 74 850T

Re: UPDATE: 74 850T Running Issue Here's a possibility. I had an 850T with starting and other odd electrical problems. It turned out that with its original key switch, about 1.5 volts (!) was being dropped across its contacts after years of use. It's also the sort of thing where across the...
