    California 1400 won't start

Have a look at the post "Ignition switch fail" in the sticky posts. Mine did this.

2014 California 1400 - tank removal procedure needed

Remove the cylinder head covers. You will now have enough wiggle room to lift the tank up and away. Don't touch the badges.

Gearbox Oil Change - Fluid Color?

Strawberry milkshake gear oil probably is Redline Shockproof heavy. Excellent stuff. Overkill IMO. LiquiMoly 85w90 you used is exactly what the specification calls for so you can't go wrong.

    Schoolboy error!

There is either one or two washers depending on whether your bike is fitted with Type A or Type B flange on the rear hub. Download the Cali 1400 service manual B043157 and refer to page 326.

Hot starting problem, colored head pipes

I also bought a 2013 Cali tour in Feb 2013 and had similar issues. Both were resolved (eventually) as follows: Approx in June 2014 Guzzi released a new map for my bike. The dealer uploaded it and it resolved all the cold/hot starting hesitation. From inspecting the spark plugs before and after...

2013 California Touring - Windshield looks foggy

My touring windscreen did the same. I believe it is age related as it is close on 5 years old and simple cleaning with a micro fibre towel doesn't seem to clean it fully. I removed the shield and washed it thoroughly in the bathtub with a mild cleaner until squeaky clean. I then polished it...

    New Cali 1400 factory map?

I have an early Cali 1400 touring purchased new in Feb 2013. Around June 2014 a new factory map was released which the dealer uploaded. Bike runs well and have no complaints but I am curious to know if the factory has released any further updated map since June 2014 and If so, how does it run...

    Griso oil filter change question

Of course the best method is to use the correct cup or the spiral wrench as mentioned before... but if, like on my Griso, you have a completely rounded filter from the PO trying unsuccessfully to remove it then punch two holes about 1.5 inches apart on the underside of the filter, insert needle...

Rough idle at start, Popping on decel in 1st gear, Poor(er) than usual low RPM throttle control

Hi Dave I fully appreciate your frustration. Lets take a few steps back. Was the bike puking oil before the 6000m oil change? If so then there probably is a mechanical issue. One or both breather valves may be faulty. They are on the cylinder head next to the intake port. They contain an oil...

Rough idle at start, Popping on decel in 1st gear, Poor(er) than usual low RPM throttle control

This amount of oil in your airbox is not normal. As a comparison, over the 50000km that my bike has done, I have drained at most a tablespoonful of oil from the drain pipes. Be sure that you have not overfilled the crankcase. Cold engine, bike upright, dipstick resting on threads should be in...

    Venting/draining hoses

The small black open ended tube is the water vent from the battery box. The other two transparent plugged tubes are vents from the airbox, one from the front bottom of the airbox and the other from the rear of the airbox. They collect any oil buildup in the airbox and allow you to see the...

    Gas Mileage

I have kept detailed records of every drop of fuel that my 1400 Touring has used. (I have ocd!) As at the last fill up: Total mileage 46864 km Fuel used 2798.8 litres Avg cons 5.97 l/100km = 39.38 US mpg Best cons 5.07 l/100km = 46.4 US mpg Worst cons 7.70 l/100km = 30.5 US mpg Virtually no...

Corbin seat owners, please reassure me!

mmmm... I may have misunderstood you. You mention the 'upstand' which I took to being the removable backrest, specifically the Standard Backrest part number 297-SB, ie. the full backrest not the donut shaped ovalback backrest. On the Standard Backrest removing the rear plastic cover will show...

Corbin seat owners, please reassure me!

I also found that the backrest was too thick and it poked me in the small of my back. To fix this is easy enough. Remove the two screws that hold the plastic backing of the backrest. Drill out the two rivets that secure the leather cover. Peel it upwards to expose the foam. Use a surform...

    1400 Service Code Reset!

On my Cali 1400 the spanner appeared at 10001, 20001,30001 and 40001 km irrespective of when it was reset. I have now reset it using the code you discovered (thank you!) at about 47 000 km and fully expect it to reappear at 50001.
