    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Thanks for all your suggestions and tips. Plugs had been replaced, the dealer assessed the O2 sensor as being fit for purpose using the diagnostics. He also compared my O2 sensor with one off a Stelvio NTX he had in the showroom and according to him both matched perfectly. This tends to...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Well the bike has now spent two days in the dealers being thoroughly checked out with static and real time diagnostics. The Lambda sensor was specifically checked and is working perfectly. Suffice to say, nothing could be found wrong with the bike. Even more frustrating is that on road test they...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Had an interesting discussion with a NTK technician this morning, and on stating that I could not get any resistance reading across the two heaters wires on the Lambda sensor he pronounced it as 'dead' and no longer fit for purpose. He was of the view that this was causing my running problems...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Ghezzi, your point is spot on; some times you cannot see the 'wood for the tree's'. Quick update, I have now replaced the plug caps and also the HT leads from each coil, and it has not made a scrap of difference. My symptoms remain. On the up side, at least this has ruled this notorious element...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

I have checked the leads/plug caps with bike running in a dark room and could not find any signs or evidence of failure. However, have ordered the NGK SB05E's and will fit when they come in and advise the outcome. Fingers crossed this will cure it.

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Quick question Pete. As you say the NGK caps are an inexpensive part so it does make sense to change to them, but what method is used to secure the existing spark lead to the existing cap? Is it a push fit or does it screw in the traditional manner? Probably a stupid question but do not want to...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Thanks for the insight Pete; and indeed you too Tony. I had dismissed the plug caps/leads due to the local guzzi mechanic being adamant that if they were shorting it would show up on his diagnostic tool when he plugged it in. I have always removed the caps using the zip tie around the cap head...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

Hi Tony. The symptoms were present before I changed the plugs. My local guzzi mechanic was suspicious that it was the plug leads/caps, but on checking visually plus via his computer diagnostics no problem in this area was found. What perplexes me is that when I rode the bike in, running like a...

    Lambda Sensor Failure?

My 8V 1200 sport has recently started to run very rough and after much investigation I appear to be no further forward, so any help or guidance would be much appreciated. Symptoms are:- 1. Unable to hold a constant throttle at low speeds - it miss fires, jerks around and almost 8 strokes. 2. On...

    Fitted heated grips

I have recently fitted the aftermarket Oxford Heated Grips to my Sport which were pretty straightforward to fit. The throttle side did not fully return to its closed position but I found some grip glue had leaked causing stiction. Once I removed this they were fine. I could not get them to work...

    Retro Fit Roller Tappets?

I have been advised by a long standing Guzzi dealer that it is possible to convert the 8V engine to roller tappet configution. With the exception of the cam chain sprocket/chain, you need everything else - cam boxes, cam, rockers and of course roller tappets, plus interestingly, new rocker...

    8V Tappet Versions?

I have discussed this with my local dealer who also inspected the crushed breather pipe. He agreed with my assessment as this being probable cause for the mayo, but was not so sure that it would have compromised lubrication sufficiently to cause the tappet failure. I use my bike purely for...

    8V Tappet Versions?

Pleased to say that I have now rebuilt the engine and all appears sweet. Interestingly, the R/H cam and tappets had no wear at all. Failure had occured only on the L/H side. On dropping the sump I found a load of 'mayo' in the bottom. It was then that I noticed that the L/H cam breather pipe had...

2 possible issues with my new Stelvio

I read this post with interest. I have a 1200 8V Sport and after only a very low mileage, the bike started making detonation/pinking type noises. Took it into the dealer who diagnosed that the exhaust outlet pipe that comes out of the exhaust collector box, prior to the end can, was loose...

    8V Tappet Versions?

I have now had chance to inspect and compare my new B0 numbered tappet with the damaged Mk2 and thought my observations may be of some value to others. The new one appears to have a much greater degree of hardening/heat treatment. Of course I have no scientific proof of this, but, the tell tale...

    8V Tappet Versions?

New Tappet part number is B014603, so does seem I have the latest variant, which is very re-assuring. It did not feel right putting it back together using the exact same bits. Fingers crossed this will now sort the problem. Thanks for tip on checking the oil pump. Seems I caught the damage very...

    8V Tappet Versions?

Does anyone know how many actual versions of the standard tappet component for this engine have been issued? I am aware that the Moto Guzzi club here in the UK, following an owners survey in early 2012, received a statement from Guzzi UK re-assuring all that they had changed their suppliers...

    cam...parts numbers

Just for the record, I have just been supplied with new cams under warranty for my 1200 8V sport which has the A7 engine type. The cam part no. is 8792744 manufactured in July 2012.

    Retro Fit Roller Tappets?

My dealer in the UK (Streffords, long standing Guzzi franchise, family owned, very helpful bunch of guys) have been trying to do the same but the parts fiche was confusing. Whilst I have it in bits, putting the roller tappets in seems a logical step, if it is not too expensive. Any help or...
