    Faster steering....

I have a cafe racer based on a 85 California 2. Yes it's a long bike...and has slow steering. It has stock length rear shocks but I pushed the front fork tubes up about 3/4 inch above the top fork yoke. Pirelli Demon tires, 110/ 18 front and 120/ 18 rear. The earlier model disc brake swing...

    30 miles on one cylinder

A shorted coil primary can take out whatever circuit controls the coil functioning.. The coil secondary was open....I did some testing and it appears the control box and or pick up is also faulty.

    30 miles on one cylinder

I rode out with a friend on his old Triumph to a gathering of European bikes about 60 miles away. My 1000 Guzzi cafe style bike misfired a few times on the way out but I paid no attention. When we pulled in the engine started to run on one cylinder. We left after a few hours and the engine ran...

    Refilling front forks?

I just did fofk seals on by 85 Cali 2 based café racer. The forks have a sealed internal dampening "shock". 60 cc s of ATF is used for lubrication only. You bike has different forks but maybe the same internal sealed shocks? If so...... Support the bike under the engine...

    38mm Dellortos

From what I understand, current porting technology is concerned with with flow and velocity at less than full lift...The valve spends a lot more time open at less than full lift.

    38mm Dellortos

And does a stock Guzzi twist throttle have enough travel to open the slides completely? Generally speaking, bigger carbs can work on a "matched" head port can work ok depending on the port air flow and velocity.

    A Great Pic !

I believe that's the team called "Subtle Crowbar".. That bike went 170 mph for 1000 cc pushrod record...Without fairing set a 157 record...

    Guzzi cafe racer,LSR racing

I Had to compromise length due to space limitations. On LSR top speed bikes in the winner circle I see very little consensus on intake and exhaust length. I tune the engine for the track not on a dyno. We're going to do some modifications to the 1000 Guzzi engine mainly for street .I see most...

    Guzzi cafe racer,LSR racing

There's intake length formulas to tune the peak power RPM. For instance on this photo of my Triumph the total intake length from velocity stack bell mouth to intake valve is 12.5 inches.Generally this will make power peak at 7200 rpm. Some tuners say it's better to have all the length from...

    Guzzi cafe racer,LSR racing

The stock crossover is still on the Guzzi... There is no reversion and I know what reversion is because the Triumph has enough for two bikes :D My rider used to 1000 cc crotch rockets was impressed with the Guzzi engine response on the street. Shorter pipes work fine on mild engines and for...

    Guzzi cafe racer,LSR racing

The bike runs excellent with the 36 inch pipes and the stock cross over. No funny power band just steady increasing power from idle to 7000 rpm. Raised the needles one notch,#135 main jets. Some one in the past had stretched a distributor advance spring ... I left it that way and set the total...

    Guzzi cafe racer,LSR racing

I just finished building this cafe racer from a well used 85 California. Swapped to spoke wheels, eliminated clutter ,home made parts, shortened existing cable, made a wiring harness, battery under chassis, but left the engine stock other than open exhaust. Replaces wheel bearings, swing arm and...

Shimming timing gear to advance cam

I've messed around with cam timing on modified engines.Generally speaking, on a 2 valve engine, advancing the timing about 4 degrees will lower peak torque about 300-400 rpm and take a bit off top end. It will also reduce intake valve to piston clearance and make the engine more likely to...

Shimming timing gear to advance cam

it's also common to use an offset key on the crank sprocket or gear to alter timing on most OHV V-8 car engines.. You want to advance the cam to increase low end power?

    Found the Guzzi

LSR yes....But also a cafe type for limited street use. LSR will require require engine work and different overall gearing and a rear wheel to accept W rated tires. So I just do the chassis and see how the machine is on the road before ripping it all apart again....

    Found the Guzzi

John, they are in the classified ........What year lower frame rails will fit my bike? All Tonti frame models? Minor bracket differences are not a big deal.

    Found the Guzzi

Got this 85 for quite reasonable money. The speedo shows 5200 miles but I doubt it's original mileage.it runs well and has the typical oil leaks. This machine will become a cafe project and yesterday I stripped it down to an engine and rolling chassis.Saved all the parts removed and as in my...

    2013 LSR Season

It's a next year project so there's time..Low volume cams are always expensive. I had cams reground to different profiles when working on vintage OHV push rod inline 6 auto engines because there were no new hi performance cams.A regrind can't be too radial but depending on the stock cam there's...
