Hello this is my first post and I would appreciate some advice on an electrical problem with my 03 Calif. Stone. When I turn on the key every thing comes on as normal but as soon as I hit the starter button it blows the fuse for the key switch circuit. Is this possibly a problem with the starter? Thank you for any help anyone may be able to give me. :)

Welcome to the forum, had a laugh at your expense. Under your name out the right side of your post it says,
"just got it firing". Problem solved. :D

Aahh, bout that fuse blower I'm not much help with electrical, maybe a bigger hammer?
Other than check your earth(s) connection(s).
Previous owner of my Bella had the same issue about once every 6 months.
My mechanic reported that my battery earth lead had too much resistance. Don't ask me :? Anyhow I blew the 15amp fuse for tail/stop & starter relay the other night for the first time. Got lots of spare fuses on the bike now, and replaced both battery leads today. Time will tell.

How many miles on the bike?
Any mods? As in electrical additions etc.
Any history? This all may help some member diagnose the fault.

1st guess is the insulation has worn through somewhere on that circuit and it is shorting out.

Put a screwdriver between the big +ve connector and the small tab connector on the back of the starter. Be ready for sparks and noise. If the starter kicks over then it is fine. It is then probably the wire shorting as I stated.

Could be in the switch too of course instead of the wire.

Thank you for your input. The bike has about 40,000 miles and has a one month old battery in it. It also has a centech fuse block with heated grips and spotlights running off it. I will check the suggested things and see if one of them is it.
