So my hunt for a Guzzi continues.....
I have found a 03' titanium under 10k.
RECALLS HAVE TAKEN PLACE. to lifters and triple tree
My Questions is for those with a single plate clutch. Has it lasted? What are the chances of needing to replace with a double?
For mileage, condition and options the price is fair to me (under 4500)

The Titanium is an awesome looking machine, but, what am i getting myself into?
if you own an 03-04 of any hydro model, please chime in. I can't find info on clutch reliability.
If the clutch is in need of future replacement, I believe this may be out of my mechanical abilities as I have never dug that far into an engine.

Thanks for any advice-
Eric

How do you know it has the single plate? Some have them, and some don't. I've converted one from single to double but there aren't many of them near me. The conversion was done at about 50K miles. Pull the rubber plug on the gearbox cover and see if you can get a clear picture of the flywheel.

With modern fuels, bikes that sit like this will need the entire fuel system cleaned and/or replaced, and that includes having the injectors professionally cleaned (not a fuel injection cleaner in the fuel). Allow ~$1k to have all of this done with parts and labor. More if the pump needs to be replaced. Clutch is fine for a great many of miles, even if single disk as John says above with the mileage. Other than that, if the cam update is the newest one (there was two BTW), they are pretty solid machines.
All said, don't expect to pick up and ride immediately without doing a mild restoration, i.e. tires, inspect all rubber lines, etc.

It is a single plate. it is coming with a twin plate still in packaging, never installed

The bike i meticulously maintained. Clean, never seen bad weather. It is road ready.

Thanks for all of your advice-

I understand the price of a bike is "what it is worth to the buyer" but really, what is it worth?
It is a 2003, appears to be hermetically sealed time capsule with under 10k. It comes with extras (bags, h-pipe, Hagons in rear) plus original parts.
All required maintenance performed, recalls performed, just will need a clutch when the single gives out.

This will be a first Guzzi. I currently have a 97' BMW f650st as a constant driver and only bike. It needed a full overhaul when purchased. I have rebuilt the drive train sprockets and chains, rebuilt the carbs, lubed all bearings, replaces wheel bearings etal, etal..... I
I will be working on this one as well, just never had anything "modern" that is chipped and injected, so there will be a learning curve. I can now say i did not get a "fair" price but average on the ST. It needed work. But now it is a reliable year round bike.

Would you buy it?
Would you buy a 09' Cali vintage instead? (for about the same price)
Would you wait till' the urge dissipates, like a junkie needing a fix???
I want to spend under $4500 get my feet wet with a Guzzi, then see what happens with the V85's to replace my F650, and continue to have two bikes.
I know it sounds like a personal (commitment) issue, and it is.

Since you basically ignored my last post by telling me how well it was cared for (which means basically nothing)... answer to above is yes. But same comments apply.

Sorry, I did not mean to "basically ignore you". If a bike is ridden annually, and looked after, how would I know or expect to spend $1000'S to have injectors professionally cleaned?
At what point does one not need this performed on a bike? Unfortunately (or fortunately) this is not a private sale, and we are all at the whim of whomever is "selling" the bike. Either on Craigslist or a Guzzi dealer.

In order to further educate me, How would one know that this service needs to be performed on a used bike? If what I gave you was "basically nothing" what information do you need to assess the situation?
I may not be as educated as you in the ways of a Guzzi......

RC engineering cleans injectors for about $45.00 each. You only have 2 so a far cry from $1000'S.
