Hi all,
Thanks to anyone taking the time to read this & I hope I'm using this forum correctly as it's my first time posting on one.
I've owned a 2008 1200 Sport 4v since late 2019, I'm second owner, approximately 80,000k's on the clock (the first owner said the odo went to zero as he connected a replacement battery at 40,000 kms).
Occasionally the bike wouldn't start (no cranking) & I found moving it around seemed to help. The first owner had the common starter motor connection upgrade carried out. I traced the problem to a partial break in the short loom from the ignition switch to the main harness which I replaced. I think I'm correct in thinking that the immobiliser is part of the PCM (ECU) on the Sport & I also replaced this with a used unit, partly hoping to eradicate the problem that turned out to be the ignition loom & also because I had it re-flashed to improve the low down throttle response. I set it up & checked & cleared out the fault codes with Diag.
The remaining problem is that the bike will be fine for a week or so & then when you turn the ignition on the red warning light to the left of the neutral & kickstand lights will come on & the bike will crank but not fire. It's always done this & last year I thought I'd cured it by swapping keys & it seemed better. It's now getting more prevalent again with either key, mostly not firing until the battery gets tired but sometimes cranking the light goes out & it'll fire. I read somewhere (maybe on here) that high resistance to the oil pressure switch can cause this but I've replaced the switch & connection terminal. The battery is a new good quality Yuasa & I've run additional earths to the PCM & starter motor. I can return to the bike a short time later & it'll be fine. Does it hot or cold.
If anyone can shed any light on this issue it'd be very much appreciated.

That's been my experience too. It was the oil pressure switch every time. The switch would behave when cold, but then fail to close before subsequent attempts to start. Replacing the oil switch fixed the situation for a while, and then the new unit would start playing up.

You could try a Autozone PS486 oil switch. I seemed to have better luck with those.
