Hi everyone,
did the 1400 eight valve motors have the flat tappet problem that the 1200 eight valve motors had?
I looked on the forum but didn’t see anything on this. I want to know as I am interested in a 2014 California 1400 that is for sale locally, and I believe 2014 was around the time that the 1200 eight valve motors changed from the deadly flat tappets to the happy roller tappets. If the problem did exist for the 1400 motor, and 2014 is a suspect year, is there any way to tell beside removing the valve covers?
I suspect that the bike I am interested in probably went through Todd’s shop as it is in SoCal and has the Matris suspension upgrade and other performance upgrades. I‘ve never had a 1400 but it looks like a badass ride. I hope to check it out soon, but I was wondering about the tappets as I know that’s a red flag issue with the 1200 eight valve motor.
Thanks

Hope you all have great holidays.

You'll love the 1400
Minor issues like any bike
Like Scott said do some research here, but if your like me all that research goes out the door once you go and see and ride one. I like these 1400's so much that I once I got a insurance settlement on my first one I immediately went bought another one to which my son got the first ride on it being my arm was still in a sling

Thank you for your replies and for sorting that out. I am working my way through the 50+ threads. I have never ridden a 1400. I did ride a Griso 8v and it was great, very fast. The closest I’ve come to the 1400 is sitting on an Audace at Pro Italia a little while ago. A very nice looking bike, some fine prosciutto!

The 1400’s have a following for sure.

I am a 1200 kind of guy and although I have 5 Moto Guzzi’s, I do not own a 1400 or a V7/V9/V85.
