1400 touring bags on 1400 custom

Hi Dave
Could you tell me if you used the touring bag mounts or the custom bag mounts that AF1 sells? Thanks

Bob

I used the Moto Guzzi mounts that come with the bags. Note, they call the "Cali Custom panniers support" kit "custom" because if you bought the Touring model, you already have them (I think...)! There is no such thing as the "Cali Touring panniers support" kit.

Moto Guzzi 35L Fiberglass Saddle Bags, Black -CM228701

For California 1400 Custom

Standard on the California 1400 Touring version, this 35L (70L total) fiberglass sidebag kit can be installed on the Custom to considerably increase the cargo capacity. These kit comes with chromed hardware, mounting brackets and complete compatibility with all other OEM Moto Guzzi accessories.

Please note: Side Case Support Kit B064286 is INCLUDED with these bags.

How does it handle the Custom's reservoir shocks? Just hang the bags on the outside of them, or is there some sort of attempt at fitting around them?

Jim

Thanks Dave
According to the guys at AF1 the supports for the touring model are different that the custom supports with the part number you posted. I bought some bags off a touring with the supports and they don't work on my custom. I have The guzzitech mufflers and the bracket interferes with the bag bracket. I'm hoping that the brackets for the custom clear the muffler bracket. Todd has offered to modify if needed, but that is a last resort.

Thanks Dave

I'm not buying. The Touring and the Custom are THE SAME BIKE, except that the Custom does not come with the bags already mounted. If the issue is fitting the GuzziTech muffler bracket with the Moto Guzzi saddlebag support frame, then the issue is with the GuzziTech muffler support bracket.

I suggest that the guys at AF1 are wrong in this instance regarding the Touring and Custom models using different saddlebag support frames.

There may be some confusion about the saddlebag support frame (that comes with the bags) and the chrome guard bars that wrap around the outside of the bags, which is a MG accessory item. But, even is that is the case, there is still no difference between the Touring and Custom fitment.

And, one last thing. The photo RudyLexus posted is very helpful. But, do not, under any conditions, attempt to loosen the hose connection on the Custom remote reservoir. There isn't any need to do anything with the hose or remote reservoir when installing the saddlebag support frame. The frame fits nicely around it.

I beg to differ, Dave. The guys at AF1 are correct; the bracket IS different for the Custom. I didn't know there were Custom-specific brackets until I was unable to fit the brackets that came with the bags and started asking questions. I then exchanged brackets with Dave at Moto International, and voila! And the remote reservoir DOES need to be rotated for clearance between the hose and the bracket.

Interesting. That was not the case for my Custom. The brackets that shipped with the bags fit just fine.

The part number for the touring brackets is different than the part number of the brackets that come with bags for the custom. I don't know yet if the muffler brackets will interfere with the custom brackets yet but they are different.

As an option you can use Hepco-Becker CBows and have removable bags. The Ivory in black is a similar size.
