I bought a 1980 CX100 a few years ago, 13, 500 miles not in bad shape. I started to clean it up and changed the oil with synthetic. Of course it weeped everywhere,(I didn't know, thought I was doing something good, figured Dr. John used Mobil, lol) a friend of mine (Aliice's brother, Bucky) sugested that since I only rode it around the block before I noticed, that I should change the oil back to regular, cross my fingers and see if it the gaskets would swell back up. To the most part they did. It starts up runs well but the left plug is darker and wetter (oil?) then the right. I have smoke coming out of that side on trailing throttle. I'm at wits end with this bike, I'm guessing it needs a top end freshening? I don't know how to do this, my local shop I don't trust much. I don't know where to take it, don't know if I want to spend bunches of money on it, when I really want is a Jackal, plain and simple. Do you think anyone would be interested in trading?, What would it be worth if I decided to sell it to buy a Jackal? BTW, my garage is heated if anyone's close that may have an opinion. Timonium Maryland. Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated. Thanks Biff

There sure are a lot of questions is a short paragraph. I'll address the smoke issue ans value is subjective.

If it is blue smoke on trailing throttle, valve guides most likely. There are some car guides that are close and can be machined to fit. I'm sure someone will mention them. The machine work is standard and can be done by any automotive machine shop. To remove and install the head is pretty easy on you bike. Pick up a Haynes manual for the T-3 etc. will be close enough on the procedure. If you can run a compression test to see if both sides are even, that will pretty much limit the oil to the valve guides. If not even, then a little more work will be required.
